After losing in a 10 round non-title affair against Betulio Gonzalez, Oguma immediately steps back up to the plate for a 15 round WBC title bout against the man that just defeated him in his own backyard. Oguma would love his flyweight strap in his very first defense, stepping up to face one Miguel Canto in his next bout. That was just the beginning of Oguma's career however, and he would rise to similar heights after a rough period of growth in his career. Don't think this one has ever been floating around public channels. Enjoy, please! This content is protected
Way to go, Russ. This was the fight where Gonzalez took a real offense to the verdict wasn't it? I remember some smart-guy writer saying something like, 'well, he seemed to have had a lot of energy for a tirade at the end of the fight, so why didn't he put that into his boxing'. I'm paraphrasing of course, but I am interested in seeing this one now.
I believe you're correct... If you look at the absolute deluge of tightly scored contests on Oguma's record, it makes you wonder, as it always does in these situations... Good fighter who was in a lot of close fighters or was he a man fighting at home in his "safe space" where he knew he could fight as he preferred while always being given points for doing so. Basically, none of the worries of a fighter typically on the road.
