    :good

Well, you probably recall Bruno actually had Tyson hurt in their first fight in Feb '89, but couldn't capitalize on it. He was already well on his way to becoming a crude head hunter, although a particularly fast, dangerous and potent one. Much more so than the one who fought in the mid-90s. I still maintain that an '89-'91 Tyson is a top level, elite HW in any era. Williams had recovered to become a what, top 2-3 rated heavyweight around the time of that fight? He was tossed - all 6'4 220lbs of him - as if he were an absolute pile of worthless ****. Half way through the First Round? It's not right.

Yeah, the difference between Spinks and Bruno was quite contrasting.

    Without question.

Just not the close-to-unbeatable machine he was in 86-88.

Can you imagine Holyfield standing there and trading with Tyson like he did Bowe and Stewart and Foreman? Wow Tyson could still put it together pretty good even though he was defensively inept by this time. Would have been a fun fight to watch.

    Holyfield himself stated that.
He said he was fortunate to fight Tyson in 1996 because he was more prone to brawling earlier.

Holyfield would have definitely stood and traded with Tyson. Holys shot would be to land something and he was pretty good at hitting guys on the soft spots but around this time he was fighting pretty straight up and thats why he would get hurt from time to time against the likes of Cooper Stewart and Foreman.

Tyson was still pretty dam fast and accurate himself in the 90's and if he hurt Holyfield I think he would have probably had a good chance of stopping him.

If he had more gas, he could have stopped him in the 5th when they actually did fight in 96

Unfortunately, it wouldn't be as great of a win as it looks in hindsight. Most people including Tyson figured he'd land one on Holy's chin and that would be over with. Evander had already turned in several inconsistent performances and had a garden variety of health problems. The fight he needed was in June '97 when it became had become apparent Holyfield was the 'real deal' again.

He seemed impressive (Tyson) after the first bite, the fear of getting his ass kicked and the adrenaline rush suddenly seemed to give him a new burst, the commentators started saying that was the Mike Tyson that needed to turn up. However he bit him again and the rest is history. I wish that fight would have bene allowed to continue.

Realistically i dont know why tyson was thrown in again against holyfield. Ali never rematched Frazier straight away, Holyfield never rematched Bowe straight away, why did they thrown Tyson in back with holyfield? when it was clearly obvious tyson wasnt ready and Holyfield awas a notch above?

After the 96 loss, he still could have had a great career. he could have fought some tough journeymen like Mcall, Mercer, Briggs and that would give him some rounds and shake off the rust and then fought Holy again a couple of years after. Or he could have waited for Bowe-Golota 2 and maybe had a showdown with Bowe first? Surely that would have been the wiser option? Don King really screwed Tyson up post prison.

I dont think so. He hurt him hitting him low but he didnt have that combination finishing stuff he had in the early part of his career and thats what would be needed to put Evander down and keep him down.

.... and Tyson says he would never have been champion again if he hadn't gone to jail in 1992. He says he was all done after the Ruddock fights, mentally his heart just wasn't in it.

Tyson fought with a lot of spirit in the fights with Ruddock. Those performances were far more gutsy and offensive than the Holyfield fight.

The fight between Tyson and Holyfield in 1996 was not the prettiest display of skills and more a war of attrition and fitness.

Holyfield himself while out timing and out fighting Tyson was very fatigued in the latter rounds. Tyson was huffing and puffing and following him flat footed around the ring for the second half of that fight.
