I think he needs to retire ... beatings like that especially at his age just aren't worth it.
Maybe if they had stopped it in the 7th he could have recovered quickly but after that beating he should take at least a year off and by then he will really be too old.

    Toney would decision him.

He might be able to beat Rahman and Thompson tought.

So MrBill you have both Sosnowski and Briggs in your top-10? Could you show your entire Top-10 list?

    "Rebound"? :blood

Bill, he shouldn't have been fighting for a title in the first place!

    Shannon needs to go away.

He helped erase some of the memory of his horrible performances against Sergei and Sultan by showing a lot of heart and hardiness in taking a beating - but come on. He's no contender. He's not even a good gatekeeper, really. He's gone on record saying he doesn't even like boxing and is just in it to score quick knockouts and collect a check (which he won't be doing against anyone with a pulse anymore, ever again).

    Go away, Shannon. Goodbye.

Post-script: Toney and Rahman really should call it a day, too. Thompson is the only one that's shown he's making a really serious run at another shot.

Briggs would beat Tony Thompson? How?

If the KO loss to WK has you thinking he's got a weak chin...he doesn't. He would box figure eights around the Briggs that lost to Vitali. Briggs would be every bit as outclassed...it would just be less painful.

    Champs: V.K., W.K. & David Haye

    1. Tom Adamek
    2. Russ Chagaev
    3. Tony Thompson
    4. Evander Holyfield
    5. Audley Harrison
    6. Nick Valuev
    7. James Toney
    8. Al Pov
    9. Shannon Briggs
    * Hasbeen Rahman / Alex Ustinov (Tie)

    Note:

The division is pretty weak and shallow in 2010, so some of these dude's rated could easily be up higher or down lower on the list...

I only rate Holy ahead of Toney in 2010 because Holy won the lousy WBF title with a good KO over Botha, while Toney has been jackin' off getting his ass pinned in some dumb MMA contest...

Harrison is bit high and lots of oldtimers in there, but I like your list.

I have it something like this

    Champs: V.K., W.K. & David Haye

    1. Adamek
    2. Chagaev
    3. Povetkin
    4. Chambers
    5. Valuev
    6. Thompson
    7. Peter
    8. Dimitrenko
    9. Solis
    10.Toney

But as you said division is pretty shallow and most fighters could easily be ranked higher or lower

Dude's like "Sosnowski, Austin and Solis" are prolly solid top-15 guys, with Solis having the most potential to excell as time goes on...

I expect Solis to outbox Austin come December...

It's pretty hard to punch yourself out when you don't throw any punches.

Briggs is top-10 in my book, but, he lacks the skills to get off on a superior fighter lik V.K..... Briggs took the worst dishing I've seen since Holmes carved up Texas Cobb for Thanksgiving back in 1982... WORD!

anyone putting Briggs, Holyfield or Toney in the top ten is crazy.
