Just found this on Youtube. Tyson was apparently 17 and still an amateur. Videos from 1983 [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WAmnue04gGU&feature=related[/ame]
on an unrelated note does anybody anything about this guy? says he sparred with Tyson [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oakVICRJGYI&feature=related[/ame]
Better action than in their actual fight years later. Tyson caught Williams with a big punch here but probably didn't carry the dynamite that he did by the late 1980's.
Williams has friggin fast hands! watching him here makes me wonder why he didnt do more with his career, he seemed to have all the toolset Tyson was approx 17 here, fought Williams 6 years later
Seems like a nice guy. He's on boxrec. He's from Brooklyn. http://boxrec.com/list_bouts.php?human_id=13901&cat=boxer I like their answer to the Hatton question.
Comes across as slightly rude, pays more attention to the background than the camera. Picked JJW and Holmes, so hes obviously knows his stuff. and doesnt fal for the Tyson/Ali banter
Holmes recovered from the KD rights of Snipes and Shavers. Lots of guys have issues keeping the left hand up, but succeed anyway. I'd further distill Carl's flaws to those of having a suspect chin and lack of recuperative powers and survival skills. Essentially, that was the difference between a Carl Williams and a Holmes or Ali. He wasn't able to shake off Weaver's possum sucker counter hook off the ropes the way He could also start slowly and be caught cold. Tillis, Cooper and Morrison all decked him in the opening round, in addition to what Tyson did to him.
Thats kind of what I said wasnt it? He did have a suspect chin, but Williams seemed to continually get flattened by the same shot which was the most glaring flaw he had.
Just reinforcing you, that's all. Weaver really baited the trap for him though, and Carl swallowed it, hook, line, sinker, rod, reel, arm and boat. (Anybody who doubts Hercules was feigning distress should watch the positioning of his left arm when Bonecrusher, Dokes, Coetzee and others really did hurt him. In those instances, Mike had his left hand up by his face. With Carl, he had it cocked and loaded by his waist, ready to trigger the shot, using his left shoulder for protection instead. I recognized it instantly, viewing the live telecast, and knew what was about to happen.)
I found a compliation video of Tyson sparring, including that footage... [yt]eGCyWr1jkOg[/yt] Includes: 1. '90 sparring with Greg Page before Douglas fight 2. '89 sparring with Jesse Ferguson before Bruno I fight 3. '84 sparring with (unknown) 4. '83 sparring with Carl Williams
Good stuff. :good Greg Page was superb when he could be bothered. He was too good to be a sparring partner / "opponent" that he became from about 1986 or '87 onwards. I guess he was just there for the money. He had the ability to beat anyone out there really, if he really wanted to. Tyson looks **** in the '89 clip against Ferguson. Worse than the '90 clip. I'm not convinced that the third clip is Ferguson again. Are you sure ?
