I start with Sam Langford. His height often varies between 1.69 m and 1,71 m (or 5′ 6½″ and 5′ 7½″), depending on the source.
Other than langford.. Tommy Burns, Mike Tyson, John L Sullivan,David Tua, Rocky Marciano,Marvin hart, Joe Frazier ex.... All of them were the perfect definition of "Tiny but Mighty"...........................Except Overrated David Tua.
What's the qualification for being a heavyweight boxer? Does Joe Walcott count, since he fought Fred Russell, Frank Childs, and Joe Choynski?
I thought of boxers, who fought at least once as an official heavyweight (over their historical weight limit). It makes sense to create a second thread for more modern boxers over 200 Ibs.
Dwight Qawi fought at heavyweight a few times, including against Foreman. I doubt Qawi was more than 5' 6. Boxrec currently says 5'7 but I've seen him listed as 5'6 and even 5'5.
In the first case there's this 5'2" guy from the 1930s, who weighed more than 175 lbs for most of his fights: BoxRec: Freddie Garcia More recently we have had a 5'4" guy, who entered the ring at 215 lbs: BoxRec: Ramiro Vidal
The Los Angeles Times- 1935 Jun 25 [Part II](page 13) Freddy Garcia, Mexcan maniac, five feet of heavyweight, meets Mexican Phil Salvador, and Bobby Perez meets Joe Rickey in the curtain-raiser.
A pity there's no film of Garcia. "Mexican maniac"... sounds like he could have been pretty fun to watch!
