    Makes sense.

For me, not being able to pull the trigger is largely due to a slowing of the reflexes...your eyes see the opening and your brain recognises it but your brain can't send the message to your muscles as quick as it used to and the moment has gone.

A shot boxer will also get hit more as his/her reflexes aren't what they were.

Since reflexes/reaction time is usually the first physical quality to decline it makes sense that the first thing you notice about a fighter on the slide is them getting hit more and them hesitating and missing out on openings.

Because this split second slowing down of a fighter's reactions is barely perceivable it can be hard to detect in training and sparring were the pace and intensity is not as high as in a real fight. I believe this is the reason why a fighter may seem good in training (and often a fighter may be physically better in other areas than in previous training camps i.e. DLH's stanima and speed was meant to be better than it has been in years in the Pac traing camp) but then appear to 'age over night' when they step in to the ring for real.

I don't know how Pac fans can argue that De La Hoya was shot. Freddie Roach said he was. Thats why they took the fight.

The answer to this question is simple:

If you have to ask whether or not a fighter's shot, then he ain't shot yet.

Not that I don't agree, because I actually think it makes a lot of sense, specially about how the body just doesn't react to the openings they see... but you kind of have to question... how the heck does Hopkins look shot against Calzaghe and so rejuvenated against Pavlik...hunger for redemption? perhaps it's all on Calzaghe and the way he fights? I don't have an opinion on this as I just thought about it, but what do you think?

yeah, fighters get shot after taking savage beating or getting koed brutally like a rjj, or like a meldrick taylor. dlh never took that type of beating prior to facing pac-man, but he is 35 t tried to fight at a weight class he really shouldnt be in anymore. plus at that age and being spent after making wieght, the last thing you want to see is man as fast and as agressve as pacquiao.

Pavlik is slower than Clazaghe and much more importantly, is far more predictable than Joe. Because of this Bernard only had to do simple, bread and butter things to make him look much more impressive i.e. move anti-clockwise to help negate Kellys big right hand. Doing this simple trick was one of the main reasons Pavlik barely threw that big right. He simply wasn't clever enough to figure it out. A much more intelligent boxer would do something to counter this and start makin Hopkins look like the 44 year old that he is.

Also, Joe wouldn't let Bernard fight at a pace Bernard was happy with. Kelly, who does have a great work rate, threw considerably less punchers than he normally does because of Bernards superior boxing knowledge. Kelly was so visabally befuddled by Hopkins he really didn't know what to do and this resulted in him barely doing anything and looking like an amatuer being schooled by a master.

Bernard isn't shot but he is definately on the decline because of his age and you can make him look his age with pressure. However, because Hopkins is a defensive genius it has to be intelligent presure or he will catch you out all night long and look great doing it.

yeah while hopkins was past it, he still is a top level fighter, but with calzaghe speed and punching/slaps or whatever you want to call it, angles, and movement, he made hopkins look old while a guy like pavlik who is far less talented then calzaghe was tailor made for a guy like hopkins.

its Obvious that Oscar was shot, if people say otherwise then they really dont know Boxing, but there is so much hate for Oscar you will only get that response, either way, we know the truth even the nay sayers know the truth they just aint real enough to speak the truth.

I bet Mayweather is kicking himself in the ass for not taking the rematch now, he could have looked like a destroyer out there on Saturday night.
