J, yes Hearns was a great right-handed puncher, but Hagler didn't ABSORB
so MANY combinations from Hearns, that Robinson reigned on LaMotta in the 13th round. LaMotta was so weak at that time [13th rd], that he took
possibly dozens of right on the button shots ,on the chin, and still managed to keep standing. Hagler, for whatever reasons, never had to soak up such
an accumulation of shots that Ray Robinson unloaded on LaMotta. No 160 pounder ever had to...Cheers.

Jones in his prime wasn't a potshoter, he was an offensive monster, he didn't coast in his 20s and against a come forward fighter he would get more opportunities than usual as most fighters went into a shell, Lamotta would actually try to win, which spells doom. Lamotta would also try to close the gap and make it into an infight where Jones is actually at his best

I don't buy for a miniute everyone ran from Satterfield who beat him except Lamotta/Layne and I'm pretty sure you haven't read reports on all 35 of those losses, in fact Charles took his shots from memory. Scoring a KO isn't just about power, it's about accuracy, foot placement and landing first, Lamottas defense and own offense likely took away Satterfield's offense, then bare in mind Satterfield was pre-prime

I didn't say Jones hit harder than Satterfield, I said he hit harder than the 3 men who stopped Lamotta, which he did. Foster's power wasn't proven against HW contenders. Jones can't be fairly compared against HWs because he only fought 1 in Ruiz and guess what he stunned him and Ruiz went into a shell. If he fought as many HWs as Satterfield did he'd likely KO some of them

Yes I do think Lamotta being 'weight drained' was partly an excuse, he wasn't a massive MW, making 160 shouldn't have been that hard for him, he faded down the stretch because Robinson encouraged him to punch himself out early and because of Robinsons own punches took it out of him. And yes fighting a bigger Robinson is harder than fighting a smaller Robinson, it shouldn't be that hard to grasp that

Hey how about this... I think Hagler had a better chin than LaMota ! LaMotta did on occasion get wobbled,Nardico dropped him. We never even saw Hagler get shook, much less hurt or dropped... That being said, I think it would take 175 lb`s to turn the trick against LaMotta. I don`t see RJJ or Hearns doing the trick...

  4. Nigel Benn would have rang his bell. Marvin Hagler too by sticking that big nasty bald head right under his chin.

Roy was definitely slicker than Ray, though. Roy would have been able to time Jake like Ray never really did. Even when Robinson stopped LaMotta, he only did so with ridiculous amounts of punches when Jake was exhausted. I'd give Roy a better chance to drop LaMotta than I'd give Ray.

PFP Hearns is one of the greatest punchers ever...However i did see a few guys handle HEarns big shots at Mw..Doug Dewitt took his shots well,he was super tough dude but not like Lamotta...Sutherland,SIngeltary also handled his shots when Hearns first jumped to Mw, as well as Kinchen,Olajide at SM.... Not to say he wasnt a greatpuncher at Mw,,but cant see him knocking out Lamotta stoppage possibly but no ten count or even knockdowns......

AT Mw i would say Mccellan and Jackson hit a little harder,,,and no matter how tough your chin was,it was lights out.. Would be intresting to see how Lamotta reacted to their money shots.. Mccellan would probably have the best chance of any Mw hed find Lamotta more than Jackson would.

LH hard to say?.... Lamotta would really be dwarfed by big LH Bangers like Foster,Spinks,Moorer.... Archie Moore was only a couple inches taller but way biggerphysically and crafty enough to land his best shots on Lamotta,, Most likely Lamotta would go down taking those guys bestshots...

Prime Roy Jones would also find Lamotta and easy target.. At SMW jones stillhad big power... Combinedwith his big speed advantage, LAmotta would get hit with frightning shots...Maybe he shakes them off ,but also a chance he eventually goes down.

Lamotta finally went down against Bob Murphy... DOes anyone know if he was legitimately hurt?

I agree for as great as a puncher as Robinson was at MW.,, He seemed more like a natural ww.... I would think Roy hit harder at 168 he was by far the naturally bigger, stronger guy and even faster.
