    Hi.

Should a good boxing gym be able to get you in shape without needing to go to a regular gym?

Or should you regularly go to a regular gym?

I'm in great shape all because of boxing, I don't run nor lift weights

I used to do both, ditched the regular gym and am now in the best shape of my life. My boxing gym demands a harder work rate so a regular gym simply made me train at a lower work rate.

Your regular gym is useless once you've joined a boxing gym - trust me...

Boxing gym KILLS a regular gym. I used to be a regular gym enthusiast too. Was in the best shape of my life... Completely wasted after three minutes Boxing!

What I came to realize is not are you only building strength and endurance you are more importantly building FUNCTIONAL strength and endurance. Also increasing your "mind-body" connection. Boxing gives you a keen understanding of the depths to which you can reach and still ask your body to perform.

Being able to bench 300lbs or run a marathon is pointless if you can't use it for anything. A bunch of useless stats. Gain a skill AND fitness.

Boxing can get you in shape. Going to a regular gym can do just as good a job if not better. It's how you train, not where.

If you're looking to lose weight and improve your conditioning a boxing gym is great. Tough workout and a lot more fun than a treadmill, bike etc or lifting weights. The boxing gym might be quite a bit cheaper too depending on what kind of gym and where you are.

Obviously if you're looking to get bigger and stronger a traditional gym with weights and stuff is better.

    this :thumbsup

and that goes for any sort of training.

A marathon or bench pressing isnt pointless if that is what you really want to achieve. Its only pointless when you do something half heartedly

Boxing gym is only a resource there for you to use. Once you decide you want to get in shape, and find a good trainer, then you will start the process. A very generalized question with so many variations/factors to take in to consideration

It depends on what you expect. Boxing alone won't get you cutting edge fit. Look at all those fat boxers. Chris Arreola definetly had the stamina and strength, but he looked like a fat bum.

Most boxers train stamina (and control their weight) through jogging, biking, swimming. Not every gym can accomodate you there. And I tend to think if I go to the Boxing Gym three times a week for 2 hours, I don't need to waste time running, I want to engage the bag, the mittens, do sparring etc...

A lot of Gyms aren't that well equipped when it comes to weightlifting, because it is oftentimes shunned in the sport. But not all of us want to become pro boxers, some of us just box as a hobby and would still like to "look good naked" (to quote American Beauty).

So, depending on your goals, your frequency of Boxing Gym visits and the equipment situation, going to a regular gym can be useful.

WRONG. The absolute best conditioning is sparring, even a marathon runner can't go 3 full rounds

I do both and I'm really in the best shape of my life. I guess it also depends on the boxing gym..., what sort of resourses are available. Regular gym is always very usefull.
