There was shock when Bruno didn`t win in 1995 but he was beat by Jonathan Edwards who won a world gold medal and broke a world record, AJ defeated a much tougher fighter than Bruno did and fought better, with more savvy and guts than Bruno did in '95 so will there be the same shock for Josh, I doubt it, looks like he`s going to be underrated by casual fans, what does anyone think? Should he at least got third or second place?
He got nearly the exact same amount of votes as Tyson Fury got. I find that funny. Eddie must be sat in a corner somewhere, crying!
In a word. . . . . .NO!! His time might come but it’ll have to be on the back of a huge unification year, 2018 maybe. If he meets and defeats both Parker & Wilder in the same year becoming undisputed Heavy Weight World Champion, then he’d deserve to win it
Oh dear. He was a 1/10 favourite to win and 1/100 to finish in the top 3 and he can only finish 4th? What went wrong?
i doubt he really cares. It's a gushy evening presented by smug ponce Linekar (who has a very punchable face I must add) and his smug ponce mates.
No he shouldn't have Tysons achievement was greater, and he didn't win. Last year frampton was fighter of the year and he wasn't even nominated!
I agree. I wanted him to win but I didn't think he deserved it. The fight with takam let him down. I know he won but a lot of people will have been disappointed with the way the fight ended.
SPOTY appears on the smug, arrogant, metropolitan elite BBC. Many of the types still watching and working for it think that boxing is a barbaric sport that should be banned. I have come across these smug twats myself, and they are beyond help. That is why boxers don’t get a fair shake whilst some cyclist or gymnast poofta will often win it. You could make cases for other boxers winning it in recent years too.
Did his victory over Klitschko grip the nation more than any other sporting event this year? I’d say so but then maybe I’m biased to boxing. Mo Farah should have won it at an Olympic year. And the other two I genuinely haven’t a clue who they are. So some personalities they are.
Unless you cough up 100’s buying a ticket/hotel, nearly £20 on ppv or you go down to the pub with the big screen, you’re not going to see him fight. He isn’t as assessable compared to other sports stars who you can watch on terrestrial tv. So he’s only being truly enjoyed by a section of the public. I’m not convinced the recent posts with Eddie Chambers hit the attention of the public enough to damage his reputation. What I do think damages his reputation though, is the recent negotiations with Parker. Boxing fans understand and appreciate that AJ is the bigger draw etc but, for people with only a passing interest, seeing AJ’s team publicity stall on a deal because they don’t believe the other world champion is worth 35%...well, it’s money before glory. It sounds greedy. I don’t personally blame him, he has to get the best deal for him, but don’t be expecting to win SPOTY from that.
Shocked he didn't make the top 3, think he was only 18 votes or something of getting third but still a shock given he was supposedly nailed on to win it. I guess the wider British public just don't give a **** about boxing.
