Didn't had watched this fight, I had a lot of things to do then and some week after this too. Some guys had posted that he performed well and I then just checked fight record in boxrec and one sport media portal that he had won this one.
AJ isn’t going to win a boxing match against Fury like he did against the smaller Ruiz. IMO, for what it’s worth, he needs to have strength to try to impose his will on Fury, to push him around and control the distance as much as possible. If he’s too heavy, his stamina and speed will not be sufficient, if he’s too light, his power will decline and he will be picked apart. This is going to be a very difficult fight for AJ but he will always have a puncher’s chance. Fury looked great in his last two fights against Wilder but he is not known for consistency. AJ isn’t the best boxer or the best puncher but he was good enough to beat every opponent except one, a loss he later avenged. He’s athletic and has great size. If he is bigger, he could lean that body against Fury and hope to tire him. Ultimately, if Fury comes into the fight in great shape and focused, it’s not going to matter. An in shape and focused Tyson Fury beats any version of AJ, skinny, muscular, etc.
While I had compared this era boxer vs the same boxer. 38 years 7 months old Wlad had finished 33 y.o Pulev in 5 rounds. A.J had finished 39 years old Pulev in 9 rounds and looks that he weighted in at 240 lbs. Doesn't looks that he then had reached aging old Wlad's effectivity vs even more older Pulev than Wlad had in the ring. Since Fury really is larger than Pulev and is not old, I think more chances to debilitate Fury A.J might have if he will be at least 250 lbs.
Will see. Both lads likes me. Fury too likes me a lot. A.J too at least a bit. While yeah, they had beat up also some still highly ranked Klit era boxers who had fought vs some form Klits. Also rematch duck Lewis is so much considered as better than Vitali in the west, while if EE boxers are old, then nothing wrong with this, they are in prime shape etc like things. While I treat Lewis and Vitali and Wlad in the same line, c o c k y approach is different. Origin c o c k y.
Just because he was still the 'man of the division', it doesn't preclude the possibility of him being post-prime now does it? Father time comes for everyone... and Wlad would have destroyed Joshua in his prime.
Father time does catch up with everyone but don't try and make out as if Wlad was a shell of himself when he got on in the ring with Fury.... far from it.
Joshua isn't going be too light that his power will decline. Any version of Joshua that has ever fought as a pro has had power. I personally don't see his weight being a major factor for his punching power. But I do see it being a factor for his stamina. It's also potentially a very difficult fight for Fury too. Fury hasn't fought an all-round fighter as good as Joshua, old Wlad aside. Unlike Wlad though, Joshua is close to his prime. Also, calling him '[not] the best puncher' is a bit of a disservice. What do you mean by this exactly? I think you must mean power as his delivery is very good and he throws fast crisp, textbook combos. Just because he might not have that one-punch right hand that Wilder has, doesn't mean that he's not a very dangerous puncher in his own right. if Joshua lands power combos Fury will not be standing for too long. if Wallin can hurt him you bet Joshua can. I don't have a dog in this fight but I don't subscribe to this Demi-God unbeatable Fury nonsense either. it's a very close fight and could go either way.
you have to remember he is 6 foot 5/6 has a big frame so 240 is not thaaaaat big plus he loses says 15/20 ibs morehe looks skinny as ****
All good points. Joshua does have very good power. Not as good as Wilder and Fury took Wilder’s biggest shots and was not KOd. That’s what I meant. Are you saying AJ has better overall power than Wilder? AJ’s biggest scalp is arguably a faded Wlad. Not bad but not as big a deal as some made of it. Fury beat Wilder twice, beat a better version of Wlad and looked more dominant in recent fights. AJ was KOd by Ruiz, a smaller man and had to switch styles to a pitter pat jab style with no power shots. He’s not going to win that type of fight against Fury. This is definitely a competitive fight, that’s what makes it interesting. I favor Fury and still see him winning but it’s boxing and anything is possible. Fury is not known for consistency and he’s going to need to be in top form to win this fight. If both men enter the fight in their best condition and fight their best fight, Fury wins. At his best, he’s looked better than AJ has ever looked. That’s what I based my prediction on. You bring up some great points and I’m excited to see this fight.
I think AJ has much better power delivery than Fury but he hasn't got a single shot like Wilder that causes fighters to crumble. Where Wilder might hit you with a 10/10 windmill right and nothing else, Joshua will hit you with 8/10 or 9/10 crosses, hooks and uppercuts in a fluid combination that more than makes up for it. I agee that Joshua cannot beat Fury fighting like he did in Ruiz II, but I wouldn't expect him to. I see him trying to engage Fury by aggressively hooking to the body to slow him down and then going upstairs assuming Fury does slow down. I don't think Fury wants to fight AJ the way he in Wilder II and I would be surprised if he did. If he keeps it long and avoids exchanges he outworks Joshua over the distance. Cheers. I too am excited to see this fight, if it ever goes ahead that is!
I agree with a lot this but just wanted to comment on AJ's weight. I don't think a bulkier AJ will be able to impose anything on Fury. Fury will always be bigger and longer regardless, and Fury is very skilled in the clinch in both protecting himself and manoeuvring his opponent. A bulker AJ may enable him to complete stronger in a clinch but for me only early - until he tires. I think AJ's best hope is to come in somewhere around his last two fights and rely on his excellent combination punching from mid range to win. The key will be to create opportunities. I don't think AJ can compete long or short and Fury has a freakish gas tank for a man his size whilst AJ's is average to average-good at best....this is a really hard fight for AJ.. may the best man win.
I didn't say he was a shell. I rate Fury's win over Wlad but IT WASN'T PRIME WLAD. It holds up better than AJ's win which was life and death against an older Wlad.
Yeah, but it’s wishful thinking to see Joshua get back down to his early career weight consistently. For whatever reason he opts to be a 240+ fighter (usually). He’s also post 30 now, so that certainly won’t help either.
