I actually agree. They end a fight prematurely and fighters can end up with horrendous cuts. But then again i prefer the old PRIDE rule set
No. More fights are ended by elbows being used as concussive blows than they do from the cuts caused by them.
NO. This is fighting. In the case of Cain-Silva, it was just stupid reffing and doctoring. It was clear he was not fit to continue and the stoppage was late on top of that. I understand soccer kicks and stomps. They are an art of fighting but that will never wash with anyone other than hardcores. Bring back knees and up kicks to a downed opponent i.e. knee on the floor. That would really help non wrestlers and shouldn't be illegal.
You can knee an opponent on all fours. Just not in the head. And it won't be coming back any time soon if ever.
Elbows are like razor blades , there ****ing deadly , last nights fight (Velasquez Silva) was a bad advert for elbows on the ground , this was a fight that was effectively ended because of a badly placed cut , caused by and elbow to a downed opponent More on this ; would Big Foot have nullified Velasquez from the bottom if Velasquez couldn't throw elbows ??? , my opinion is yes he would , would Velasquez have broken down Big Foot's JJ game with just G&P (punches and knee's to the body) minus elbows ??? i doubt it I like elbows on the feet , but on the ground id have to say i oppose them , however , this is a sport that is getting more refined and technical , and IMO gradually losing its " on the edge of your seat " out an out excitement ................ to a degree !!! (complex subject) , therefore if the UFC have anything to do with it , expect them to stay , the commission should IMO look at banning them
yeah it ruined that great match up last night and it would take one of Bones biggest weapons away dont agree with allowing upkicks though, they really jerk the neck, would only be a matter of time before that resulted in a horrible injury
No. I want to see a fight that's as close as you can get to a street fight minus the dirty tactics. If a fighter scores a takedown then he's earned the right to throw some easy elbows. Don't want to get elbowed on the ground? Work on your TD defense.
:deal Im against almost anything that dilutes the reality of combat. im not a fan of soccer kicks or dirty stuff but elbows are ****ing awesome. its the most brutal sport in the world. deal with it.
No. They shouldn´t be banned because it´s MMA......BUT I think if elbows are allowed we should allow other things too.....
I'm torn on this one. Unlike stomps and soccer kicks, I see nothing wrong with them as an attack. But it seems like fighters are learning to throw them with the intention of opening massive, deep cuts. It always seems to be a certain type of glancing shot that opens a guy up. I think those cuts are getting more common as people become more familiar with how to throw these elbows. It's certainly something that should be looked at. But I don't like the idea of just taking them away. It's a tough call. :conf :hat
Hey, punches can cut people as well. And that effect was minimized by gloves. How about elbow pad as well?
