It irks me to see people like Jimmy Lennon, Jr. or Michael Buffer, or Teddy Atlas, Jim Gray and Al Bernstein being admitted. They are NOT fighters. They may contribute to the sport but since they are not fighters they shouldn't be admitted. Personally, I think it is a disgrace.

Donald Trump is in the New Jersey Boxing HOF. He brought big fights to Atlantic City when he had the Trump Casino in AC.

So....yeah, anyone can be inducted into the HOF.

They should be admitted for their profession, into their respective areas of expertise, not their involvement or coverage of a profession. Journalists already receive accolades for reporting all over the world. Actors have their guilds and awards. Speakers and writers as well. Your trade should not be intertwined with what you are covering. It's never made sense to me. It takes a special skill and courage to step into the ring. These announcers, writers, promoters, regardless of how good they are at what they do, are not in their fighting.

I suppose its to give the non fighters some recognition along with the fighters. If there was a referee, journalist, trainer, announcer, etc. HOF, would anyone turn up to the ceremony?

No honourable mention/service to the sport would suffice, imo

Teddy was a boxer wasn’t he? And a trainer? I think it would have more credibility for coaches/trainers/refs if they weren’t inducted but were recognised for their contributions, so many are part and parcel of the sport (for example the buffers) but they aren’t boxers, if you search through the boxing hall of fame you shouldn’t have to go through none participants, that’s not to say they aren’t worth mentioning but they widen the scope for inclusion in the hall of fame and the only thing that should widen the scope for inclusion should be the talent pool of boxers and their achievements in the sport. That shouldn’t undermine these people’s achievements in fact any real boxing people would agree.

Yes, they even have their own category. I don't have a problem at all with it.

It's not like "Rocky" got in as a boxer FFS.

I think trainers should definitely be included. But otherwise I totally agree. Sports broadcasters all tend to overlap, same with writers so it's best they be ranked together.

well they are not being accepted as boxers. Those guys are part of the history of boxing. The only problem I see is there are not as many of the announcers as there are boxers, so it is easier to get in than a boxer would..
