Should Barrera have been DQ'd?

In the fight against Naseem Hamed Barrera in the 12'th round got Nas in a wrestling hold and slammed his head into the corner.

The move was very dangerous. Worse than what RJJ got DQ'd for against Griffin. Hamed could have suffered very serious neck injuries from that illegal manoeuvre.

The fact he didn't suffer any injury is irrelevant. Barrera's intention was clear and against the rules of boxing. Seems like a clear DQ according to the rules of boxing, however no one ever seems to mention it. Sure Barrera was winning at the time, but what he did certainly must qualify as a DQ.

Probably just a point or a hard warning. DQ would be too much.

Nope. After showing his son who is in charge for 11 rounds they couldn't DQ him for a little foul like that. Maybe a point deduction or something.

Barerra is a dirty fighter when he's not getting his way though. He head-butted and hitting on the breaks a few boxers...PAC got the worst .

Im British and won 20 pounds backing Barrera on points.I saw almost all Hameds fights on TV and he was terrific to watch and an excellent fighter. But he was in the habit of intimidating opponents. This Mexican ATG he could not intimidate. This was probably the first fight he didn't jump the rope. When I saw that,I thought,Hamed aint gonna win this.I believe he was happy to go the distance. When Marco did that,it was a bit naughty, but just capped off a great performance and bullied a man who'd bullied many. And he never complained. They say Hamed never trained.I heard on very good authority first hand that he trained like hell. Its just my opinion, but if they'd fought 10 times,he'd have lost 10.

Hamed was getting shown a lesson in the sweet science barrera (the instructor) did not appreciate the rowdy students antics and thus he got punished

It would have been funny if barrera did... Its like the chavez whitaker fight, no matter what the result we know who won

Its heresy to suggest he did not train. He was a big star and this was his big fight to prove the doubters wrong...i hate the "dident train" excuse

You sign a contract unless its an emergency dont give excuses...(i dont think hamed didnhimself it was more his fans)

He did not look as good because thats what a good boxer does, he makes you look bad, exposes your flaws. It happends all the time... I look like a world champion when im on the heavy bag, anyone can

Nope,he was just letting him know who his daddy was.Not much worse than when Hamed got MAB in a head lock and pulled him down onto the canvas.Could have seriously decapitated MAB or at least messed up his hair. Now man up and quit your whiny arsed bitching.

Hope were not at cross purposes here as I think in the main were singing from the same hymn sheet Barrera. But in the light of where we come from I may have seen a bit more about this.In a recent TV interview,in GB,Hamed made a few excuses, hinted his training hadn't gone well, blamed weight making over a long career etc.So in the respect you think he didn't make excuses,I think you're wrong.Plus,Im not geographically a million miles away, and I have heard{boxing}people make the didn't train excuse. All bar the one I believe.

I'd actually say he deserves a statue for that feat :bart

Point deduction would have been fine.

    You got lucky.

Hamed signed this fight after breaking his left hand vs Sanchez.
He couldn't train for many months and packed weight big time.

When it came time to enter training camp, he was grossly overweight, and never managed to lose it properly; he came to the Barrera fight half dead, you could see it on his face and his body looked extremely soft.

It doesn't mean Marco didn't deserve his victory; even at his best, Hamed proved to have many flaws; Kelley exposed his bad fundamentals and could have possibly won if less shopworn.

No, he should have automatically won after he did it.
