First of all I like to say Nigel Benn is one of all time favourites but should he have been disqualified in his bout with Barkley for hitting him while he was down?

    5:00 mark

Benn was lucky that Barkley got and didn't make a fuss of the situation.

Abraham caught Dirrell a lot cleaner than that. It can't have hurt Barkley that much as he didn't complain.

But Barkley was a true warrior. Cut from a different cloth.

When you compare Iran Barkeys reaction to that situation with Andre Dirrells you arn't comparing the punches, you're comparing the fighters and Barkley was a true warrior.

if you watch that fight with American commentary they were doing their nut wanting Benn disqualified.

When you consider Abraham got DQ'd for less and maybe to an extent Bika then yes Benn should have DQ'd

The difference is Barkley was clearly hurt when he went down and then punched on the side/back of the head. Benn could have done some major damage.

That was also Benns second infraction for that offence in that fight, he was pretty lucky that night. That second punch at 5:00 wasn't just instinct finishing off a combo, it was clearly aimed at Barkley when he was on the floor.

Compare the punches then. I don't buy into the Dirrell was faking it line, and for what it's worth, I've never been a fan of Dirrell.

I didn't accuse Dirrell of faking (although I have my doubts, I can't prove them), I was saying that Barkley not complaining, making a meal of it or faking that he was KO'd doesn't mean it wasn't a hard shot. Barkley was a "lets get on with it" type of fighter.

more of a protect yourself at all times attitude in those days. DQs were very rare and complaining didn't get you anywhere.

If you think what Benn did was worse than what Sakio Bika did, you're nuts.
