In those situations as soon as you get into debates how hard the shot was you are already on dodgy ground because you've "admitted" (for want of a better word) that the offence has taken place.

The AA-Dirrel DQ was the same, I personally believe that theres every chance that Direll was acting but I support the DQ because AA hit his opponent while he was on the floor.

The way Dirrell has acted over the Super 6 and his return to the ring despite "brain damage", Rule n.253 gets my full support!

'The blade' is at the NEC signing thing as well as Tommy Hearns (no homo but the guys a leg-end) and Barry McGuigan over the weekend, good opportunity to ask the man himself the thread question. Such a tough ******* he prob dont realise he was hit whilst down!

Different era, different mentalities was the shot wrong? Yea sure had it happened today it'd been a dq and argued on here. The fact they were both throwback warriors we just nod, raise a beer to em and say 'Thats how to fight'

    Protect Yourself At All Times.

When Barkley and Benn signed to fight....everybody knew thats what it was going to be........A FIGHT!

    So shut the **** up.

People in general are pussies these days, whenever a fighter is taking abit of a beating. People blame the ref for not stopping the fight, its just silly.

While a generally agree that people moan about a bit of rough and tumble in pro boxing a bit too much these days using the "protect yourself at all times" rule to justify a downed fighter getting hit is ridiculous. It doesn't apply when I fighter is down because its illegal to hit a downed fighter.

Iran Barkley wanted a fight with Nigel Benn....

Iran Barkley got a fight with Nigel Benn..

In a fight, you must protect yourself at all-times.

Nonsense PK. A boxer does not have to protect himself when he is down. They are the rules of boxing and they didn't alter them just for that one fight.

The Ref should of jumped in the way of Nigel Benn quicker, he was going in the other direaction. At the end of the day, you have to protect yourself at all times.......until the ref says or stops the action.

The Ref did not stop the action, and Barkley was kneeling down he was not completly on the canvas. And Nigel Benn was in the heat of the moment and really wild.

Iran Barkley wanted a fight with Nigel Benn and thats what he got.

Boxing used to be boxing, so no.

It didn't used to be a sport where someone would cry for the ref to stop it when one opponent dare punched the other.

Too many people cry and moan.

"Ohhhhh that fight went on for to long"

"Ohhhhh the corner should of pulled him out"

"He's right eye has completly closed"

So ****ing what, he's got another eye.

Should Lennox Lewis have been disqualified for his constant underhand tactics? Crickey, Hopkins would have hardly ever won a fight had he fought always to the book.. etc etc...

I do agree, but it's a tricky one. I think there are many, many fights where a boxer has been caught on the floor and there will be in the future, that's the nature of the sport.

There seems to me to be a growing, sort of, win on a technicality aspect to the game and that worries me as the rules can easily be exploited.

Mike Tyson used to throw a left hook, and quickly turn it into a Elbow on the inside............that was one of his favourites moves.

But so ****ing what, its a fight.

Boxers used to fight, now they just box. There are very few boxers these days, that have the mentality that says...

"Who are ya, come on then, lets have it"

    As Nigel Benn would say...

Just look and listen to Nigel Benn, i think Nigel Benn would take on David Haye and threaten to beat him down at a press conference.

Look at him, just look at him dam it.....look at him crazed, and ****ing delirious watching the fight.

At the 1min 49sec mark, look a Benn watching this fight.
