It won't fight. No single body has the power to ban them.

Agree 100% with that Resto & Lewis deserved it BUT
Antonio Margarito's good name & career were totally destroyed by a State Commission who had absolutely no proof he'd ever done anything wrong They were the ones should have been jailed & banned for life

    No. Too many variables involved.

Of course not. You might as well shut down boxing.
All top fighters have done it at some point.
    Do the math.

I didn't say steroids I said performance enhancing drugs. That means any performance enhancing drugs. It doesn't matter if it was a little bit or alot. Or if it was just one or multiple. You are either for PEDSs or you aren't simple as that.

No, that just penalizes fighters who doesn't have the re$ources for the te$ts. I would argue the up and coming fighters should even be given a bit more leeway than wealthy pros if you really want an even playing field.

I think the better idea would be to penalize earnings for fights where they get caught using PEDs. For example if Bob was caught using PEDs for his upcoming fight, maybe reduce his earnings down to 10%. Its not overly harsh like a lifetime ban would be, yet its harsh enough that he'd think twice next time about using PEDs because his reward would be so little.

Basically, you want to encourage people to do the right thing. That tends to work better than punishing them with no second chances like a lifetime ban would.

Amazing idea. This would also make the team hold their boxer accountable if not they get a lower purse as well. And it makes sure coaches don't cross any lines.

I'm not sure about first offense lifetime bans for any PED use.

I would like to see tiers of fighters and tiers of drugs. Some substances like synthetic testosterone or EPO should probably be a lifetime ban. But for meldonium or something like ephedrine that you really could take by accident?

Boxing is in a tough spot because there's this soft precedent that's been set and it would take a hell of a leader to come in now and make the very hard choices and shame a decent amount of the other powers that be into following suit.

The second one was for an "anabolic agent" which is a distinction without a difference.

He didn't take the wrong decongestant he was trying to get stronger muscles by taking an obscure drug that affects the endocrine system.

It's the platonic form of doping and he did it after he had already failed a test.

Depends, because you can't equate all these substances.

For instance, equating whatever that nasal spray thing Saunders had with heavy duty roids is ridiculous. The nasal spray was only banned in the US not the UK too.

Same with Povetkin when he was banned for the over counter thing that was allowed for many years and was legal in Russia. That is not the same as what Tyson, Holyfield and the rest were taking and never busted for.

The other problem is that the A-listers have better ways of never getting caught so you would get situations where someone gets done for a mild stimulant that happens to be on a list and some star gets away with needle marks in their bellies.

In an ideal world you should ban them for taking clear PEDs that do seriously enhance them. But now with all the supplements and minor things that set the alarm off, I think it's more complicated.

No necessarily. One time should be a one year suspension. Two times 3 years. Three times lifetime.

No because it’s not fair on those who get caught and banned.

As there are those using PEDs who will never get caught because they are a cash cow of the sport or they have more money for advanced sports science.

Lifetime bans are almost impossible to sustain under the current fragmented system. Didn't Chisora and Haye fight with Luxenberg boxing licences to get round the BBBoC refusal to sanction their fight in 2012? Yes, their issue wasn't a drug ban but it highlights the workarounds. And that fight still took place in the UK. Someone, somewhere would licence a fight with the right 'incentive'.

I suppose sanctioning bodies could permanently disbar fighters from title bouts - they never would though; firstly because of the lure of finances but also it would require all agencies involved in boxing to act in unison. Good luck with that.

And lifetime bans from competing would be challenged in the courts on the grounds of proportionality. It would only take one very wealthy fighter sanctioned with a lifetime ban to potentially bankrupt any authority attempting to impose it by dragging them through lengthy and costly court cases. Fury's stand-off with the BBBoC shows this.

And finally, there's no certainty courts would rule against the first banned fighter to challenge a lifetime ban, establishing a legal president...

    Absolutely not.

Many showed the problems of treating trivial or accidental offenses like heavy duty body & capacity transformation.
Also how the rich & powerful will get away with things.
Even if you could eliminate these things-which is next to impossible-it should be a staggered set of consequences, such as longer bans & sacrificing purses.

We need better, more comprehensive, more frequent & random testing & shaming.
Make them seem & feel like criminals & weaklings for needing to lie, cheat, & try to steal victories & glory from honest men.
Then impose long bans for serious cheating.
    Escalating for repeat offenses.
