Should boxing appoint a Chief Commissioner who decides bouts?

I was watching some UFC and I noticed that what makes it so compelling is the fact that the best matchups get made because they're decided almost exclusively by one person - the President. It's similar to how Vince McMahon would order great wrestling matches on the fly simply because he could. There were no "voluntary defenses", no promoters or underhanded rankings or anything else. Just one person who loves boxing and wants nothing more than the best fights.

So my question is, would boxing be better off if a Unified Commissioner or President were appointed and empowered with the sole authority of ordering boxing matches to take place? Or would it be even worse for boxing? Why is it UFC fans are more easily able to get the fights they want, while many potentially legendary boxing matches went unfought?

Um, who would 'appoint' this person exactly?

They should just get Vince McMahon anyway.

Imagine Wladimir Klitschko is scheduled to fight some semi-retired bum but when he turns up at the arena he finds he actually has to fight David Haye and Alexander Povetkin in a triple threat coffin match.

    Who wouldn't prefer that??

The UFC/WWE system is wrong. It puts all the power and money in the hands of the owner, while the fighters who risk their health and lives don't get the opportunity to control their own destiny.
In boxing, each fighter has the power to make fights, and since it is their faces getting punched in, I think it's only right.

The fighters don't have the right to make fights though.
