The longer it is,the more boring it is.

Theres a reason why prizefighter tournaments are getting popular. In those they have to come out swinging.

    Unlimited rounds,would be the opposite

I've thought for sometime that boxing should adopt a 12-15 round format for championship fights.

To explain: after round 12, the ref confers with each fighter at their corner (champion first) and asks if they wish to continue and if both agree to keep fighting then round 13 is fought. The same process would continue after round 13 and 14 with the 15th round being final round. If by then there is no stoppage, the result would be decided on the cards.

If after the 12th, 13th or 14th rounds either fighter does not wish to continue fighting then the fight would automatically go to the scorecards.

*If the contest doesn't feature an established champion, ie: 2 highly ranked fighters fighting for a vacated title, then the higher ranked fighter is who the ref would first confer with at the end of the 12th, 13th, and 14th rounds.

how would that be fair for martinez-chavez jr?

it would always favor the fighter with a wide disparity in points over a puncher

Well, one way of looking at it is that it wouldn't have changed anything. Martinez would have likely opted to end the fight after the 12th and thus won by UD - which is what happened anyways.

Where this format gets interesting is when there is an anxiety of a close match and the fighters don't want to chance there fate to the opinions of the judges.

The Ademek-USS fight yesterday would have been an interesting conclusion if it utilized this format, along with many other examples.

Why are people always trying to change our sport?
It's like telling your already hot girlfriend that she should "dress more like a slut."

People just don't understand how boxing used to look back in those day. Half the people bitching about boring fights would be throwing a *****-fit if they had to sit through an old-school boxing match.
