Of course. Prior day weigh-ins made the sport less safe and less fair, plus it puts a lot of extra danger on the opponent's plate instead of merely the 200lbs guy making middleweight for instance.

    keep to the weight inbetween
    routes out the con artist
represents true hard work and dedication
i would also like the old fifteen rounds
obviously with a rigours ref and ultimate medical oversight

They should observe their hydration levels throughout their weight cuts so they don't ever dip below 5% of their body weight.

Same day weigh ins 100%. There's always going to be a danger in combat sports where people need to make weight, however the day before weigh in has resulted in a lot of bad results.

But then how would you get an advantage over your opponents with rehydration IV's?

Sell the rehydration IV and use that money to prepare for a fight with the same day weigh in

Nope. It was changed for a reason. They need to implement guidelines to ensure guys aren't cutting weight at dangerous levels. Year-round weight checks should be mandatory. You get too fat, you get moved up.

If I'm not mistaken and I'm sure the more knowledgeable on this site will correct me, but wasn't the day before weigh in for the protection of the fighter?

It was. Guys were draining themselves and getting in the ring, which was resulting in some preventative brain damage. The 24 hours was to allow the rehydration for the brain, for the most part (IIRC)

What even is the argument for keeping it day before?

Yes it was originally meant to discourage the dangerous practices of draining, but...that never really stopped happening even with the change, so...mission failed (if anything people now cut MORE than they would have previously, knowing they can rehydrate for 24 hours). And the door has been opened for this practice to be regularly exploited as shelter for weight-bullies.

As it stands now it's still dangerous for the draining fighters themselves, and potentially for their opponents as well.

@The Real Lance what do you think of my point above?

Things can be well-intentioned and end up not working out.

Absolutely agree. The day-before weigh in might have helped with the fighters entering he ring to be rehydrated, but it just resulted in another issue and form of abuse. But from what i recall, the main proponent was to keep away from 'dry brain' and the likelihood of pre-mature brain damage. But like you said, was well intentioned. And now guys enter the ring 20 lbs over their weigh in weight.
