I'd be all for less weight divisions, but i think boxing needs to separate the big boys. It's not fair/reasonable for a 200 lbs guy to have to fight a 250 lbs guy in any professional fight game.

But the problem with that is that the heavyweight division (IE the division between 200 ans 220) would just become the new cruiserweight division. It'll be dead, just like the cruiserweight division has been for the majority of it's existence.

We'll see legitimate 215 lb'ers bulking up to 230, just to be in the super heavyweright division, because that's where the money will be.

Nah, in theory a nice idea but in practice it'll never work.

your thinking that based on what we've got now, 17 divisions and panicing people are implying another with S-HW. NO!!!

Divisions MUST be Reduced to 12 divisions... see earlier posts and somewhere on here I've got all the weights made up, if anybody knows how to seacher for it.

It might work if we push the SHW limit up to say 240 or 250.

"Round numbers are arbitrary and have no meaning":huh

Mainstream boxing fights are no longer fights to a finish. And the final round of a fight with a fighter winning but in trouble has a lot of meaning; as has a fights distance in determining tactics...

If you read the rest of my post, I don't support fighting untill the other man gets knocked out. I just said that a specific amount of rounds is arbitrary. You have nostalgia fanboys who say that "15 round title fights were the best", but it's really no different from 12.

Having more rounds means more punishment for fighters. The rounds have to be actually as small as possible to allow fighters to have to be conditioned and mentally strong to last the distance.

Then on that logic, the sport should not be allowed as no boxing would leave the fighters in maximum condition, and 0 rounds would be "as small as possible"...

And who are you to tell someone who passes all the medicals required, they are not allowed to box?

    No.

They should use the same weight classes as the amateurs

Maybe an Embryoweight division to go at the other end of the weight divisions to balance it out.
