If I were one of Calzaghe's mates, I'd advise him to retire. As a fan of boxing, I'd like Calzaghe to go on and on, but only so long as he is fully motivated and gives his best.

Who would you see as an opponent though Decebal? I'm a Calzaghe fan but seriously I see no opponent at the moment who is anything other than a step down. The only fight I think that would be competitive would be a rematch with Hopkins but the same critters would come out saying that Hopkins is an even older man than the one Calzaghe beat first time round (regardless of Hopkins' win over Pavlik)!

Well, compared to Jones, quite a few people could be a step up, but there's no guarantee...

Hopkins and Kessler aside, I would say Johnson, Dawson and Bute would all definitely be a step up. Do I think any of these three would beat him?

    No.

Johnson would lose something like 8-4, Dawson would lose something like 9-3, or on a late TKO, and Bute would lose something like 10-2, imo.

The hardest fight out there for Calzaghe is still Hopkins, in my view. The second hardest fight is Kessler. About Hopkins, I think both him and Calzaghe underperformed in their last fight. I think the rematch would be a better fight. Calzaghe would still be favourite, but, imo, not by much.:good

Fair point, a step up in quality given Jones' performance but in terms of names and the appeal of the fight, none of them grab my goat. I agree Hopkins is still the best fight for him but nothing to gain for Calzaghe. In my opinion he's got nothing left to prove.

He's got nothing left to prove except that he can beat a great, great fighter with a big name like Hopkins more clearly, with a more impressive performance. Do I think he absolutely has to fight Hopkins again? No! Not at all. He proved he was slightly better than him the first time around. Is there any other name out there for Calzaghe? As you say, there obviously isn't. He's beaten them all...

Yes, he's shot to pieces, no way would Roy Jones last 12 with a Prime Joe Calzaghe.
