Joe's gonna retire from boxing by the end of 2008 with a win over Hopkins and Jones. Getting all the titles as well as the lineal championship would be nice but he doesn't have enough time. And some of the names (Green, Erdei) are not big enough to take a risk for a little amount of money.

Joe's gonna win The Ring title from B-Hop (if he can defeat the old fox of course) then he'll add another legend to his resume fighting Jones back in Wales in front of 72.000 sometime in the Fall.

And you can't blame him. After he really dominated the SMW division for 10 years and if he can defeat the great Hopkins he deserves a multimillion dollar payday against Roy.

  3. Can he do it? Easily.

Will he do it? Nah, he don't need to prove himself further once he domintes Hopper.

i think he should go for it - he'll be fighting the harder fights now - and when he starts to slow down he finishes off with the easier fights.

how many people have completely unfied two consecutive divisions, and retired unbeaten? been 10 year reigning champ, i think that would be something special, and its do able - below cruiserweight no one really beats cal right now.

I would like him to go for it from a boxing point of view, but I think his health is much more important. He has stated that he would like to spend more time with his two boys, and work with other fighters, possibly in the media etc.

No good chasing pay days if he doesn't have the health to enjoy what that brings.

  8. Joe is the most complete fighter out there today! The only other person you could argue being more complete is Floyd!

He should go for 2 or 3 more fights at least.

After B. Hopkins he should finish Roy's carreer, than fight whoever comes on top of the Dawson/Woods/Tarver/Glen fights.

Then, if there is one big name that emerges he could make his farewell fight or just retire for good before hitting his natural downfall.

He should go for it. To have been holder of all titles at 168 and 175 would be true ATG material, and a one of a kind achievement. He could pull it off, if he gets by Dawson sooner rather than later, he really could do it.

Not true. You could argue the lower weights also have to take more hits as their output is generally higher. Besides, facts and figures will show you that HW's have much more success at an older age than lighter weights. Mostly because their slower and punch harder, which means they dont need to deal with as fast speed, doesnt need as fast reflexes and can rely on their power. With age you loose speed & reflexes first and power last. Guys like Lennox Lewis can get away with being 39 and be king, ever heard of a FW past 36yr old ruling the division?

I always thought he should go for 50. It's a risk if he wants to retire undefeated but I think he could do it. To have a better record than Marciano, as far as number of wins, would be incredible.

He could do it but scratch Chad Dawsons name off, that fight is a loss for Calzaghe.
