Should Chad Dawson be in the top 10 P4P??

That 12 loss journeyman would give anyone at 175 hell including the recently retired Calzaghe.:deal I suggest you rethink your position before calling the former champ of the divison in Johnson a journeyman.

 

Yeah you're right but who is Hopkins going to fight? He has expressed 0 interest in fighting Dawson. I rank Dawson over him at the moment.

those are three quality wins over former champions
he's undefeated and a two time champion ... who's went up 3 weight classes and is possibly thinking about going down to 168 and face all of their champions.

Mosley fought Mayorga at 154 then went down and beat Margarito

 

Difference between a champ and a beltholder! There's a difference between giving a guy a good fight and beating him. Johnson's name is based solely off his win over a past-it Jones coming off a two round knockout loss. He has beaten a few decent fighters but has lost to awhole load more. Yeah he's fought some good competition, but so has Peter Buckley!

Johnson is one of the most avoided fighters today. Since his "loss" to Dawson, he can't get anyone of note to fight him. Why? Because everyone knows he will give them hell but isn't a big name and can't offer a good contract. He has been fighting bums since the Dawson fight and is fighting again on March. I actually feel bad for the guy. He's like 40 or going on 40 and he wants a big pay day but he can't get no one to fight him. That Dawson "loss" probably cost him millions.

 

Depends on how you view P4P? In terms of pure skill? Absolutely. The guy has few flaws if any.

In terms of resume? He's a bottom top 10 sort of guy...although the problems with that is that once you get outside the top 7 or so, the list pretty much becomes interchangeable

 

True, I was on the wind a bit with the original post to be honest! He's built up a decent little resume. I don't think he is top 10 p4p level yet, maybe 15-20. I am always a bit sceptical of fighters whose best wins over fighters more than a decade older than them (I allow that most of the top light heavies are mid-30s or older). If he beats Hopkins (who IS 43 but seems completely ageless) I will put him in my p4p list. A catchweight win over Kessler would also do the trick (not if the fight was at light heavy).Failing that, a couple of wins over good up and comers like Tavoris Cloud or Diaconu would move him towards the top ten.

 

Seems premature, yet it does matter how the state of boxing is. In the 1980's Dawson would not have been rated top 20.

He beat 3-former/current champions ... the last 2 linear light heavyweight champions ... and the new true cruiserweight champion --

it gets no better than that -

alot of those guys on the p4p list haven't moved up and remained undefeated in as many weight classes as Dawson.

Margarito was top 10 and he only beat Cotto who was a belt holder in the welterweight division.

Dawson and Paul Williams should be on the p4p list ... I doubt that Margarito could go up in weight and be solid ... he tried and it didn't work ... Mosley got top 10 with one win.

I don't get it ... the more I think about the p4p top 10 is more politics than an actual accomplishment.

Now I can justify Pacquiao and JMM being the p4p #1 & #2 ... but those other guys don't make much sense.

Calderon should be higher
Dawson should be top 10
Williams should be top 10
Darchinyan should be higher as much as I don't like Darchinyan, this guy moved up in weight to take all the belts and be the #1 guy in the division by KO.

Cotto is good on the top 10 - but he's a stay at welterweight and probably won't make an attempt to move up in weight.

Vasquez and Rafa are rightfully on there - those guys are more than likely going to go up in weight another time and gain championships.

Caballero shouldn't be on there ... he hasn't did anything to grant p4p status ... he beat Molitor but that just moves him up in his divisional rankings.

Nonito Donaire should be top 10 p4p ...

Hopkins shouldn't be p4p ... he's good but he's not doing anything special ...

Hatton shouldn't be as high on the p4p list either ... he should be 10
