You are correct, which is why HBO nixed him for Mitchell. But if HBO says no, someone else is bound to say yes eventually. Like I said before, for Chauncy that may mean going to Europe or UK for fights against the likes of Tyson Fury. Welliver is in an unusual situation: he's world rated, but hasn't had big time exposure. On one hand he shouldn't be taking risks, but if he doesn't, platforms like HBO will never acknowledge him. It's a catch-22 situation career-wise.
2 things he needs to reach mando status to get a shot so he must call out a guy like Stiverne or Arreola beating them can get a shot at the WBC sadly those guys wont fight him i imagine second any loss at this stage will pretty much kill his chances hes in a corrie sanders like position, he may just have to come in as a late sub to get the fights he wants
He doesn't need to reach the mandatory position to get a title shot. The Kitschkos are so dominant that they are destroying everyone. For this reason, the Brothers are just moving down the list of available names, taking anyone for their optionals. A loss at this point won't necessarily wreck Chauncy's long term chances. He's only 28 or 29 years old. For a heavyweight, that's young. Concerning a loss, it's really more of question of how he performs (i.e., finish on his feet, make a tough fight out of it, etc). As for Corrie Sanders, he wasn't brought in as a last minute substitute for Vladimir. That fight was scheduled long in advance.
No tv network is going to put Welliver on tv. He looks like a slob and has no power. Isn't going to happen.
In your judgment, what would it take for Chauncy to get the respect of the suits at HBO? I agree with you that TV drives the sport. It's the ultimate object of the sport these days, and it's why fighters are built up over time. Cashing out by clinching the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow, so to speak.
Yes it's true however the Klitschkos can also only fight who RTL / EPIX, etc. approves. As myself and others have said here, these networks aren't going to put Welliver on TV. Welliver is better off as a career sparring partner.
Don't you think Tyson Fury's broadcaster would approve Welliver? They've accepted guys like Pajic and Firtha already. I'm thinking the Euro stations may not be as demanding or harsh as the suits at HBO. Just my guess. What's your take?
To get a major network, or fans to notice...Chauncy needs to trash talk more. he's a humble, great guy...but networks don't care about that. Go against what got him where he is. Re-invent Chauncy as a trash talking Heavyweight and people will notice...That sounds stupid, but its what people want to see. Chauncy also needs to step up and fight a top 50-100 boxer. Take the less money, go to the boxer's home town and knock the guy out. Don't leave it up to the judges (robbery). Chauncy needs a promoter more...!!!
Chauncy just needs to keep winning. Everything else wil sort itself. He needs bigger wins. McCall getting pulled out from under him in his last fight hurt. That UD win instead of Bert Cooper may have sealed the deal. I also think that Chauncy could make a much bigger splash with the internet than he is doing. He has the presence on the internet and the greatest fans already. But, he could take to camera much more himself. Nobody else can control the internet. Chauncy could put out weekly videos and develop an even bigger cult following in short order. We also want to see video of Joe Hipp. We want to see video of Roland and Ali Crosbie too. They can raise their profile through use of new media without having to suck the balls of these TV execs. So basicly Chauncy just needs to do more of what he is doing. Keep winning and keep maintaining a growing presence on the internet. It is working so far, even if TV in the USA is not on board yet. It wasn't that long ago that we had nobody at all on our side besides family and friends. But through consistent pounding of internet outlets, we now have tons of support outside the home team. Back then, Chauncy had lots of hate coming at him for being fat. Now people hate because he has the #1 HW fan in the world backing him. People hate him now because he has the audacity of hope and is on a serious Klitschko Brother hunt. They hate him because his name is all over the place, all of the time. And fat guys like Dan Raphael hate him because he is doing what they could not do....lose 50 pounds with ease. This **** aint over. Chauncy Welliver is young, on the rise, and backed up by the best team in the business. One door closes, another opens. HBO may not be ready for the Hillyard Hammer but CCTV in China has no problem putting Welliver on for tens of millions of HW fans to watch his fights. On that note, that is where the Mitchell vs Welliver fight would be the biggest and make the most money right now. As the main event, in China. Not as an undercard event on piddly arse HBO. Chauncy is on a mission to be HW Champion. He travels the world to fight his fights and routinely beats guys in their own back yards. Let's see Seth prepared for that too. Put that China Chinned chump on a plane to China. Where the judges will judge the fight unbiased and the ref will not dive in at the 1st opportunity to stop Seth's opponent. You want to be a world champion, travel half way around the world to fight like one. Golden Boy is missing out on the China fans. There are millions and millions of boxing fans in China just waiting to be brought into the fold. Las Vegas is old news man. Any yahoo group within boxing can make a fight there. It takes real smarts and heart to go into a new market and solidify those fans like Chauncy has. PandaMania will survive and it will continue to thrive to the ducking jive of the other HW top 5. HBO will have their doors busted down eventually by Welliver. Until then, tune in to their charade of drunken old men, woman beaters, and protected fighters with way less talent than their corrupt analysts lead the audiance to believe. HBO is by far the most corrupt network in boxing today. They should rename their program to Chumpionship Boxing. Welliver TKO Mitchell anywhere, anytime. So follow me, cancel HBO in favor of CCTV!
Chauncy doesn't knock guys out in his own backyard. He can't KO retired CW's or ancient guys like Bert Cooper. He throws lots of pitty patty punches that have nothing on them.
Brit tv, yeah he might have a shot....if he takes the short end of the purse and fights there, which I don't see him doing unless its a LOT of money.
