now maybe he wasnt the best heavyweight of all time but he was a damn good one given his size compared to the modern heavyweight fighters. with wins against huge guys like Vitali Klischko, Jameel McCline, etc., can you name any light heavyweight besides toney, holyfield and a few others who could accomplish that and become a HEAVYWEIGHT champion?
His resume would demand it. Maybe not 1st ballet, but I am sure there are far less accomplished fighters in the hall.
I chuckled that was some stupid ****. Anyways, I think Byrd's popularity and achievements merit a second or third ballot.
The thing about Byrd is that he spent most of his career fighting two divisions over his best fighting weight, so my answer is maybe.
Absolutely NOT. I appreciate he made the most of his talents, but did he ever have an impressive win? I can't think of one.
Yes, you guys overrate the HOF in boxing, there are guys with WAY less on their resume than Chris Byrd. Chris held the IBF title for 3 years, beat some pretty good guys during his tenure, and did while being outsized the whole time.
Sure why not. The HOF shouldn't be so elite that those who win titles and are near the top of their division for numerous years are excluded. I've never been a huge Byrd fan but I do admire anyone who can get into the ring and more than hold their own against guys 10-30lbs bigger, for a number of years.
he should be in there for getting up from that devastating uppercut by ibeabuchi , imo 99 out of 100 fighters chris byrds size would have been out before they hit the canvas, byrd was up at like 2
