! The ONLY way to beat a counterpuncher is by counterpunching yourself , footwork , use your angles and movement ! , you have to try and beat them at their game , you have to be smart . Peace .

The problem with this is that Mayweather, while an excellent counterpuncher, is also a really good boxer puncher... in his prime weight he was a puncher/boxer and was 'smart aggressive'. Mayweather pretty much walks people down now. he walked down Ortiz who is much naturally bigger and stronger than him -- the same with Mosley. Cotto is going to have to fight aggressive (a times to switch up his attack) and smart, and just expect to get hit with the ring hand. Cotto has a great timing, i think a lot of people forget this. He can time some good shots, which can land inbetween mayweathers punches (which means he would have to utilize some of his counterpunching, which cotto IS good at). but this is yet to be seen if he can be this composed, while being repeatedly hit in the face with the right.

Diaz would be the better trainer, Steward would make a better 24/7 with him arguing with the Mayweathers

It is possible that I haven't taken note, but I don't see the evidence of Floyd walking people down. He has for a few years now stood his ground and counter-punched. He will move laterally and cut-off the ring, but he isn't walking down guys... there is a difference.

And if I remember correctly, the Ortiz fiasco, Victor started trying to box on the outside, waiting for Floyd to initiate (again, not the same as walking some one down), but in the last round it was definitely Ortiz moving forwards and May looking to slip punches against the ropes.

    Am I missing something?

Oh, and to the OPs question, absolutely stick with Diaz. Cotto had the best, most complete performance of his career against Margarito. And Margarito still had a style that would give Cotto issues, it is just that Miguel was better prepared for the pressure. I have complete trust that what little chance Cotto has vs Floyd will come about with Diaz in his corner.

Cotto wants money, the cuban trainer is not Steward, but very good and much cheaper.

You can expect the cuban guy to be there.

    Steward? Are you crazy?
The Cuban did great things for him so far.

I would stick with the cuban guy. Doesnt wlad have an upcoming fight? steward wont be able to give him his full attention and steward doesnt believe in cotto anymore or actually think he can beat mayweather.

Ortiz was backing up and Mosley was backing up and mayweather was coming forward.

From the looks of this thread it won't go the way Manny expected it to..

I like how most are just referring to his trainer as "the cuban"

I will rewatch the Mosley fight, but I know for a fact that at the closing moments of the Ortiz fight, Mayweather had his back to the ropes. If he had tried to push Ortiz against the ropes earlier on, or move forward, there were no signs of that in the 4th and final rd.

Re-watching Mayweather/Ortiz you can see Floyd being vulnerable to Ortiz's underdeveloped straight left. He caught a few good ones downstairs also and right before the headbutt Ortiz landed a nice right hook. Miguel has not fought southpaw since the Quintana fight but even out of the orthodox stance with lateral movement he could get these openings. I cant remember Floyd fighting anybody moving and attacking at angles, this could be something to look into. He was very trigger happy with the over hand right early on too although shooting it without following through.

Pedro had Miguel doing multiple strategies while steward had him fighting strictly off the jab. I really dont think steward is the best fit for Miguel in this or any other fight.
