In your previous posts you've acknowledged that 145 tilts the odds a bit in Manny's favor. Why do you suppose that is? It's because Cotto would be weaker than he would be at 147. I'm not saying he would be a dehydrated corpse just that he would not have his full potential. He would still be a handfull for anyone. However if you want his title at his weight, you shouldn't be taking anything at all from him. You should let him weight what the rules say he can weigh not push some new weight limit to give yourself more of an edge. If you can't do that then just have a non title fight at whatever weight you want.
Don't get me wrong. I am not saying that's a bad thing. He is looking out for Manny. He is doing a great job at it.
Did I? Ur making me a liar, read again. "Its not Cotto on this matter, Its Pac. Pac weighs 138 against Hatton. 148 on fight night. Right there you can see the distinct advantage for Cotto if the fight is at 147. I always say this. At 147, Cotto will appear He is pushing his advantage. Pac is trying to equalize to make it competitive pound for pound. At this point of time, Pac is an attractive fight for Cotto more than Cotto is for Pac. Pac makes concession on weight, the other party should reciprocate. Catchweight is fair and as uve stated, if it doesnt make a difference, then make the fight on a weight fair to both parties. Us boxing fans would like to witness such a megafight. "
147 is the welterweight LIMIT. Meaning anything a shade over 140-147 is welterweight. Whether it's a catchweight or not, as long as it's within the welterweight limit it's a welterweight fight, so, of course it would be for the WBO belt. Arum knows what he is doing- should Pacman win it will be yet another title in another division; Arum knows what he is marketing.
Also, to clarify what I personally think: Cotto should be able to weigh what the **** he wants to as long as it's within the welter limit- as far as I'm concerned, Pacqiuao can weigh whatever, be it 143 or anything else. If you're moving up to fight the champion then let him fight at the weight he normally fights at, IMO.
How is this not saying that 145 tips the scale in Pacquiaos favor? Either I am misreading your post or this is what you are saying. "Pac is trying to equalize and make it more competitive pound for pound" What is it about 145 that makes it more competitive in your opinion? if you are fighting for a mythical p4p title I got no problem with you trying to make it more competitive. If you are fighting for a world welterweight title, you can't do that. Either fight a welterweight or don't You can't try to negotiate weight to make it more competitive.
Anything above 140 and at or below 147 constitutes as the welterweight weight limit. If the fight is held between those bounds then it's still a welterweight fight, so yes, even if the fight takes place at a catchweight the belt should be on the line.
Absolutely. Hell, Leonard-Hearns II, a "super middleweight" title bout was at a catchweight of 163. People act like this is new. It's not.
Whitaker vs. Chavez was a catchweight of 145 and it was for the linear and WBC WW titles. Norris vs. Taylor was a catchweight of 150.5 (WTF) and it was for the WBC 154 lbs title and the other examples listed such as Hearns-Leonard II and Hopkins-De La Hoya were catchweights and titles were on the line I don't see why this fight should be any different. Now with that being said, I think the fight should be at 147 anyway
