If you look at Dawson in 2007, and you look at him now totally different boxer. It's true though that constantly switching trainers will effect your performance. Dawson has never stayed with a trainer for even two years, he always switches.

I noticed he didn"t really look all that great against Hopkins in the second fight. I was skeptical of Scully, and I was very skeptical of Dawson's chances when the Ward fight was announced.

I didn't think Scully had anything to do with the loss last night. Dawson was simply out matched by the better man... I don't doubt that Dawson will drop Scully after such a big loss because of his history, but Scully surely wasn't the problem.

Although I do agree that he looked best under the tutelage of Floyd Sr. I never saw him look better than when he defeated Adamek.

i know ten times more than you think, trust me. want me to throw out a few amateur bouts i had 25 years ago? as if they have any reliance to what i know now while by being around the business for a while and knowing alot of pro fighters, former and current champs and hearing their opinions almost weekly on alot of these issues. Not to mention having just following the game and watching any and all boxing forever as a fan.
i agree that both guys are massively underpaid . and that is a transitivity and was disgraceful. thats boxing being broken. pay mayweather 40 million. pay ward 900 grand. ward has a gold medal, unified titles, fought the best over and over and still only 28. he deserved more than 1/40th of a mayweather check when he fights guys like ortiz at 8-1 odds. :-(

so NO...7 pounds doesnt turn thebest 175 pound guy int he world into Peter Manfredo because he lost 7 POUNDS. :rofl

dawson got his ass kicked by the best. no shame. excuses are getting pathetic, its a generation thing...

I'm getting sick of this ****. It isn't the trainers fault at all.

The fault was the man infront of him. Andre ward made a world champion look ordinary. That aside Dawson can bounce back and reing at LHW and become a good champion. He can't however be great.

i like dawson, i know people who know him, hes a good guy...and a gym rat, and great boxer, great skills. Nothing but respect for a guy that isnt scared to risk his rep by fighting the best guy around. any real fan would chalk this up to "everyone has and is gonna lose to ward for a long time"
didnt even want to see these guys fight because they are nice guys and family people...no bad guy or whatever. people will have to realize one day that ward is gonna go down as one of the best of his generation...he is that good. hoe chad moves on and fights another guy with a belt at 175 and unify his title.
(****ing boxrec has moved hopkins back as #1 at 175) :rofl

That was Chad being Chad + the weight cut and you a even more timid chad dawson. No trainer can make him better at this point.

I didnt like the advice Scully was giving Dawson. I thought Dawson should have pressed early and got off first, not wait for Ward to come at him.

scully was clueless in there:smoke notice the instructions coming from virgil as compared to scully. he didnt prepare chad properly for the fight most fights are lost in training and it shows chad only trained to make weight.

roach and scully are both journeymen trainers who happen to have good fighters but as trainers they were average as fighters and average as trainers.

How is Scully fine, before the fight Scully was bragging about how he figured out Ward, and he had a gameplan to counter everything Ward does. Not really respecting his opponent.

If Steward was in Dawson's corner, you think Steward would say that ****?

Scully is one of my favourite trainers in the game right now and if Chad couldn't respond to John's pep talk at the end of the eighth,he's not responding to anyone.
How refreshing to see a trainer tell a fighter as early as the end of the eighth it's all or nothing.
Like it's been said,Chad is the problem. He should be grateful that Scully took him back, and last night probably showed why Scully had reservations before.

Scully always gives good advice. he told him when he needed to turn it up and he told him he needed to gamble with a punch while ward was coming in. Chad just doesn't listen.

Chad just doesn't have the heart or mind of a fighter. He has great athletic abilities and crisp punching but he can never utilize it to the fullest because of his mental limitations.
