This is true. I am rewatching the fight right now and Scully did give instructions. Dawson was out of his league and just couldn't. Great performance by Ward.

If anything Dawson needs a new strength and conditioning coach. Dawson doing long slow roadwork every morning and avoiding weight training is doing him no favours. He could be a fast, powerful explosive athlete with a strong body to take punches better but instead he ****s around with pointless old school methods. Chads anaerobic fitness is terrible, that's why he can throw a fast, impressive combination but then needs two rounds off to recover from it.

The trainer is not the problem. It is Dawson.

The first two were mentioned before the fight. Why wait until after knowing the results to address what was said a long time ago?

I pin the loss completely on Scullie. He's utter **** as a trainer.

I have to agree that Floyd Sr. seemed to bring the best out in him. And it's true that Dawson looked his best in 2007 against Adamek. Chad definitely needs to make some changes. Not a good showing for him last night.

I noticed that his skills continue to decline everytime he gets a new trainer, which is obvious what will happen. Against Ward everything just fell apart, gone was the lateral movement he used to show, or the speed in his foot movement, some of that probably was due to the weight loss, the other was just a poor training camp, the trainer deserves some of that blame.

Dawson looked like he didn't want to be in there, his offense and defense looked like it fell five notches (that can be contributed to Ward putting off a stellar performance). Dawson needs a new team, a new trainer, someone that will teach him new things. It's not just about switching trainers, it's about finding the right team. Dawson should have never left Steward because Steward will get in his fighters face, and that's what Dawson needs, a trainer that will discipline him. Floyd Sr often got in Chad's face, because Chad has a lot of bad habits, he was doing something wrong all the time, and Floyd Sr. would correct that.

I know Virgil Hill whoops Ward's ass during training camp.

Dawson is the problem. People always told him the rignt things, he is lazy, doesn't listen, doesn't train hard, and simply doesn't have the mind set of a fighter.

Scully was lost, he didn't know what to do against Ward, he was bragging about how he figured him out, that's not a sign of a good trainer. But it was Dawson who hired him and dropped Steward, which was a bad move. Most of the blame should be towards Dawson, because it's the decisions he make, but I knew it was a bad decision during the Hopkins fight.

As I understand it, Dawson wanted Steward to come to him, and Steward said "No, come to Detroit."

Everyone seems to agree that Dawson would do better with Floyd Sr because Floyd said "My way or the highway."

That comes back to Dawson, not his trainer, since he fired Floyd Sr.

Just because Dawson drops a good trainer doesn't mean he makes the best decisions. When Tyson fired Rooney, I don't think he realized that was a mistake.

One thing I noticed against Ward is that Dawson was flat footed, there was no lateral movement, he was trying to fight Ward at his own game. Dawson has a 5" inch reach advantage, Dawson should be fighting on the outside, using angles and lateral movement, and teeing off of his jab. Dawson should only be fighting on the inside when necessary. Again just poor preparation.

Exactly. He simply does NOT have the mindset of a champion.
