It's been months I didnt post on this forum, because, as much as I like to watch the sports, I dont care for the majority of post in here. I thank you to let us know the inside of the sports without any filter.

As a coach (not boxing though), I agree 100% with you. Sometimes the most important thing is not the technics, the strategies and such, but just to try to give back confidence to your athlete so he can perform to his best of his abilities. That being said, it's out of the coach's hands after that.

Good luck on your future endeavor.

In your opinion (sorry if you already answer that elsewhere), if you could go back, what would you do to make Dawson more prepared for the weight or just for the tough opponent he had to face?

Thanks, my man, I appreciate that. And I understand why someone would be leery of message boards LOL

To be completely honest, I think overall we had a good gameplan and we had a guy with the PHYSICAL attributes to carry them out...by the same token, though, no one in history has ever (to my knowledge) come down in weight at this level with success...from Prince Charles (Toney), Roy Jones (Tarver), Sugar Ray Leonard (Norris), Chris Byrd (Shaun George), etc...Chad wanted to try it, he thought he could make it, his strength coach/nutritionist thought the same, and we went for it. I think, from my own experience in the past, what happens is that when u originally think of the idea it seems so far away that you have the time to make it and you will make it...but then when you start training your body goes through changes, some of them DRASTIC, and then on top of it the weight just doesnt fall off as easily as you thought it would...at that point you have to adjust your methods. Then the mental aspect comes into play in a major way. I would say this fight and the others I mentioned should serve as warnings to future fighters thinking about doing something similar: DONT DO IT. Its not worth it, learn from those who came before you and failed at it. Hindsight is great, at least, because it brings the picture in clearer and also gives a nice blue print for those who come after you.

    Thanks again for your insight.

I have a lot of question in my head that I dont think you will answer about this (was the weight problem solvable if the fight was to a later date or was the fight possible only if Dawson dropped the weight for example). Those are the negotiations between promoters and it's pretty rare we got into this.

But I just hope that both you and Dawson will be able to learn from this setback. Everyone of those warriors deserve our respect for what they do.

I think Scully is good for him. You cannot find someone who will be as committed to him and his career. The problem with Dawson against Ward is Ward is just too good. Has nothing to do with anything but handspeed and prime. Dawson could still do well at lightheavyweight if he takes some time off. Emanual Steward always said 6 months rest after a hard loss is good.

Thanks, MAG. I also think the rest is necessary...the human body is VERY strong but VERY weak at the same time...going through these type things takes time to recover from fully. It may even feel great but TIME is needed regardless...

John, no problem. I know how much you know your boxing and how much you love boxing, and you are very committed to Chad. I remember when Hearns lost to Hagler and someone said what do you blame the loss on and Tommy said "Marvin Hagler" and everyone laughed. He was saying you have 2 fighters who are great and someone has to lose. Yeah I remember Emanual saying one of the keys to Hearns longevity was after a really tough fight he took time off to let the body heal. The one time he didn't take time off was when he was knocked out by Barkley and came back right after when he fought Kinchen who knocked him down again and almost had him out in round 4.

If he had to torture himself as bad as reports are to make the weight, then not sure any trainer would have made a difference. So who can really say?

Hey there Scully, thanks for taking the time to put down your side of things. :good

I really admire the way you and chad gave so much credit to ward, even though everyone knows the weight had a lot to do with it, the way chad straight up gave andre credit when many fighters would go on and on and on about the weight, was class.

Anyways, Im a fan of Chad and hope he can come back strong at 175 n maybe hopefully beat Pascal in a rematch.

Alright well thanks again for giving us your take, hope you dont take the critics too harshly and keep up the good work :good
