They should hire Foreman AND Merchant. The undisputed Dynamic Duo of boxing commentary.

Who is he to challenge anyone? He's never laced up a day in his life and has no idea what it takes to train for a fight, to win a fight, or to get KOd in front of a million people.

Have you ever heard George Foreman or Roy Jones or Tim Bradley come across the way Merchant does?
Absolutely not! Because they know exactly what it takes to step between the ropes and fight someone, and they have far too much class to grandstand at another man's expense

Was he forced out of HBO? I always just assumed he retired cause of his age.

dont know to tell you the truth, but there were many times i was positive larry had a hard liquor buzz going. enough to where you could detect slurring. it made him look like his mind was considerably slower. but hes old, and that can take a toll on his performance, so who knows.

All I know is 200 year old Larry would be a better announcer than the clowns on DAZN and Tim Bradley.

Thats the main point! It's fair to ask tough questions, but Larry took it to the point of smugness and disrespect. He's in same league with Jim Grey. If either of them had ever fought themselves they would know how to get fighters to talk to them by showing them their proper respect

I understand what you're saying, but where I disagree with you is Larry had a job to do. I'm not saying Larry was perfect at what he did, but what I respected most about Merchant was that he usually wasn't afraid to ask the tough questions. Compared to his successor Kellerman, I believe Merchant did fans a great service in that he usually asked questions that made sense and he wasn't afraid to be critical of a boxer's performance and/or career decisions.

In order to properly conduct post fight interviews and do them well, there is an inherent "confrontational" aura that goes with that territory when one isn't afraid to ask the pressing questions.

Larry sucks bro. One of the worst imo. Early on he was okay but the last two decades he was atrocious. Glad they fired his ass after JMM-Pac 4
