Nonito should make some changes or retire. He has now lost to guys bigger and talented (Walters) and before that smaller, faster, more talented and seasoned (Rigo). That puts him somewhere in between. He has the skills to beat good fighters. But, not great ones, it seems. I'm not saying Walters is great, yet. But, he adjusted to Donaire and that jab couldn't miss. If he makes some changes to his style, like actually incorporating some jabs and feints to set up his power shots, he'd be better off. Also, he should use more defense...don't get caught up in exchanges so much. I remember him being a better boxer. But, then at some point he started falling in love with his power, and looking for that 1 shot a lot. Maybe a new trainer would help bring more dimensions to his game. Because, he has the talent and is a student of the sport. And he should pick a division between 122 and 130 and stop weight jumping. His power and speed carry up.
The only guy Donaire has an issue with at 118-122 is Rigs, maybe Santa Cruz. At 126, he will be in trouble every fight that he can't end early. He is lucky the Vetyeka fight was stopped when it was. When guys can touch him, he starts to wear and bust up.
Too late for nonito. just another fool, that fell in love with his left hook again. why, did daddy not teach him the fundamentals again?
his daddy isn't that good of a trainer. Nonito should ask one of the Mayweather's to train him. roach would be good too but at this point in his career, can't change old habits
Rigondeux wasn't smaller. He moved up in weight to face Rigondeux and now suddenly Rigondeux is smaller?
Donaire almost always towered over his opponents, always looked like a featherweight to me. It's clearly not the division that matters, it just happens that he fought great fighters like Walters and Rigo. Nonito in no way is a shot fighter, he simply met his match. He hadn't fought fighters of the quality of Walters or Rigo.
He lost to the best. But looked average against worse opponents like Vasquez jr. He looked bad in that fight. What does it mean? it means he can't dominate as much because the boxers are not midgets the opponents touch him up a bit more.He struggles to box 12 rounds. I'd like to see Donaire fight Mares or Moreno. But more likely he will be a stepping stone for young prospects.Donaire's legs are shot. And when the legs go the head will fall.
He didn't move up to face Rigo. Donaire had a title at the weight and a few fights under his belt before he fought Rigo. I think he is naturally bigger than Rigo and I could see him moving up as far as 130 and carrying up his speed and power with him.
