Im a Calzaghe fan but before the scores came out I thought Hopkins would win as it was fairly hard to call and just thought the American bias would edge it. I just think split decisions are often unsatisfying especially in fights where picking a winner seems a bit like flipping a coin. I think maybe making a draw option wider for borderline fights might be useful and a more realistic representation as it will be reflected on the record and might push fighters who want a W to put in the extra effort. I dont think this fight has proved much for either fighter except that they can go in a ring for 12 rounds with each other and both come out not needing to drink through a straw - yes Joe got tagged a couple of times and Hopkins was hit more than ever but neither fighter to me was a clear winner which is what fight fans want to see. Therefore give them a draw - I just think deciding a W and L in this situation leaves a sour taste to a lot of people and amazing to see the news articles that follow about amazing victories when it could so easily have gone the other way. I think one of the problems with boxing is the money involved and the hype. As a layman if I am being told 'im not gonna let a white boy beat me' or that 'im gonna knock hopkins out' (cant remember exact quotes) then I want to see someone follow through and earn their Win. If this Win is highly debateable why not give them a draw so the record can reflect that?
