I thought it was a very entertaining and close fight, with both Fragomeni and Erdei showing lots of heart. Respect to both. That said, I thought Erdei's power was a bit conspicuous by absence (or is it just Frag's concrete head?) and his conditioning didn't seem great either - he looked like he was about to die on his stool a couple of times... Against someone younger, faster and as strong as Frag he will be in lots of trouble. Accordingly, I think LHW is where he should stay. Thoughts? ps. Since the judges had it a very close fight I'm also attaching a little poll to see whom you had winning. For me marginally Erdei, I think (though I didn't keep a scorecard).
I had Erdei ahead with 3 or 4 points. It was a not a great technical fight but a real given and taken. But the Cruiserweight is not the right weightclass for Erdei
116-113 for Erdei on my card. Stupid 114-114 score, Erdei outclassed Fragomeni in the first 4 rounds, then it was a 50-50 brawl. What a fight! The Erdei-Fragomeni contract was signed 3 weeks ago when the Erdei-Cloud negotiations failed, so he had no time to adjust to 200, therefore came in 18 pounds lighter and still won. But he's no cruiserweight, he got very very tired, so he should definitely go back to LHW. Brave effort, great fight, and a deserving new champ. But he must go back to 175.
I was wondering what the fight would have looked like, had Erdei chosen to bulk up (ignoring the fact he had no time, for a sec)? Judging by how this fight went I think it would have worked massively to his disadvantage - slowing him down and adding to his stamina issues. So it's not clear to me he has that option, really. That said, a mandatory defence against Wlodarczyk would be a similar blend of styles to Erdei - Fragomeni, so perhaps we could see similar fireworks again? So I'm kind of thinking whether Zsolt shouldn't stay for one more CW fight... ;-)
I had Erdei winning 115-113. No way should he stay at cruiser though. He'd get killed by someone like Huck or Arslan.
BigBone, you wouldn't have any additional details on how/why the Erdei-Cloud negotiations fell through, would you? I've heard just that bit before, but I've heard no details as to why.
The only info I have is that Universum reached out for both the Campillo (WBA) and Cloud (IBF) camps for a unification fight and neither team were eager to face Erdei. But the Campillo fight ultimately fell off due to the post-Shumenov drug-test scandal (I believe the Campillo sample never reached the lab) and the signed 2010 Las Vegas rematch.
Both showed a lot of heart! erdei looked more tired than fragomeni! If fragomeni had a little bit more punching power erdei would be gone! But anyways it was about time that frogomeni looses the title and let the younger guys battle it out! Erdei wont stay at cruiser they said today so!
Campillo couldn't fight Erdei if he wanted to because of Campillo's situation with Shumenov. I'm sure Universum made a complete lowball offer to Cloud (with tons of options by Universum, because that's they're style), who has no name in Europe. Erdei showed way more heart in that fight than I thought he had. Through four, it looked like it was going to be a snoozer, but once Erdei got tired, it started to turn into a war.
and you missed a great fight  As for the topic: no, he def shouldn't stay at CW. But he must fight a real fighter in LHW now.
Thanks for the reply man...nothing I hadn't heard about Erdei-Cloud, but the Campillo drug-test scandal is definitely new info to me!
Close but clear for Erdei, I wonder how anybody could have this different. Erdei should not stay at cruiser, he wasn't even a bit lhw and hadn't real power there. I hope he goes down again and finally get's some big money fights. He really earned it and is good enough to hang in there with the best. Universum hided him far too long just like Dzinziruk.
