We've seen more and more fights recently come in with rehydration clauses, which is something I really like tbh I rewatched Crawford vs Postol recently. They were widely regarded as the top two light welters in the world. On fight night Crawford was a middleweight and Postol was a light middleweight. It kinda makes a complete mockery of the weight class. Should every fight now have rehydration clauses to prevent this kinda thing taking place?
IBF sanctioned fights do have 2nd day weigh ins. Not that keen on them though, think it makes it more dangerous.
I think fighters should fight at their natural weight, so yes I agree with rehydration clause. I understand the argument that same day weigh ins are dangerous, but so is a fighter coming in 10-15 pounds heavier than his opponent
I’m for it to be honest, personally think if On fight day you are over the limit you should campaign at a higher weight.
Makes no difference. The second IBF weigh in is on the MORNING of the fight. From there they still gain weight.
I agree with this as the ultimate solution, but I don't see it happening. Rehydration clause is a good compromise I think.
It's not a bad idea. I think weigh in pre ring walk would simplify it further as you either make weight or not. I think the problem with same day weigh in would still have people trying to rehydrate over a shorter time frame. Rehydration clause would be good but depends how strict it is and what % is accepted. I would rather have fighters fighting at there natural weight and eliminate the problem as much as possible. Like with PEDS it's not a level playing field as some people can clearly rehydrate more than others. I think we've discussed this before Luft and we both agreed it's unacceptable so hopefully this can change the sport for the better. Weight bullying is one of my biggest problems with current day boxing.
There should not be a rehydration clause for any fights, the simple fact is they should go back to the weigh in on the morning of the fight. The big earners have the funds and teams behind them to manipulate the weigh in 24 hours before the fight, lesser fighters do not have this advantage as well as the fact that come fight time they are nowhere near the weight limit of the division they are meant to be fighting in.
Do you think that in the case of rehydration, boxing is very different from MMA? This content is protected
Same day weigh-ins and rehydration clauses 1 hour before ringwalks. Not for heavyweights of course, but every other weightclass.
It's no different at all as Mirko mentions in that clip McGregor at 145 lbs looked like he'd just come out of a death camp and the next day would look normal. I just don't think it's fair if someone is rolling in 20 lbs heavier as at the lighter weights that's a huge difference. We see it in boxing and MMA when one fighter looks like he's two or three divisions north of where the fight is at.
