People are assuming Fury's big weight advantage would pay dividends in this fight, but Usyk is not Wilder. Usyk will not allow Fury to back him into the ropes and lean on him. Fury will need his agility in this fight more than anything. I think he should go down to 260lbs. If he wants a weight advantage, that's still 40lbs heavier than Usyk I believe?
'not letting someone lean on you' is easier said than done. Usyk will feel the weight at points throughout a match with Fury, there is no question of that. Fury also has a significant reach advantage over Usyk so he can't really fight Fury at range either. I still think Fury stops Usyk in a fight, the size and aggression will be too much.
One thing with Fury's weight is, he carries a lot of weight around that second set of upper arse cheeks that he's got. Not sure how they help him in the ring.
He will need speed though. Usyk's footwork is far better than Wilder and Wlads. Usyk will have to be worn down because he can be pushed in a corner. If FUry is too big and slow, Usyk will dance around him. Fury down to 260lbs.
Fury will drop the weight for Usyk no doubt, I think he would know that. But make no mistake, Usyk will get it put on him at some point - Fury is too smart to let Usyk dance around the ring for 12 rounds. His ring IQ is far higher than AJ's.
I thought he needed to but so far it has worked for him. He's still pretty light on his feet for a man that size so no until proven otherwise.
He's a fat disgusting pig. Fighting and winning belts with that obscene body enables all fat people in the world to look in the mirror and say "I'm a fat digusting pig, but if Tyson Fury can win a HW belt, then I can as well!". He's the cause of many deaths in the Western World from complications due to obesity. Only two actions can be taken: 1) The UK government should force him into eating a healthy diet with proper exercise. Put him in HMP Northumberland prison, tie his ass to a chair, force feed him vegetables and water, and make him do situps till he is lean, perhaps 210 pounds. 2) Stay fat and get Bolivianized by Usyk. I vote for choice #2.
It’s not so much the weight but the body composition. He weighed nearly the same in Wilder 2 and 3 but was clearly in much worse shape in the 3rd fight.
People obsess too much about how fighters look. Also, the recent weight gain was Wilder-specific, I'd argue. I'd expect him around 265ish vs Usyk or Joshua. He'd want to be able to move better against those two, while vs Wilder he simply wanted to force him onto the backfoot, which totally befuddles the Bronze Bomber...
This idea that he performs better heavier is because he gains and loses weight. Losing weight too quickly will leave you feeling weaker. For his best performance he should stay at a healthy weight in between fights. He was in bad shape for Wilder 3. He was slower and more sluggish than normal. He nearly lost that fight, He went down twice in one round, a few more seconds on the clock and he would have went down a third time. While there was no 3 knock down rule, most refs would stop a fight when there are 3 knock downs in a single round. Fury was able to win in the end because Wilder doesn't know how to box.
I think for Usyk he would need to be in better shape than the last Wilder fight. The weight itself isn't the main issue as we know he can fight at the heavier weight. If however he is that out of shape then Usyk will beat him. So I would say condition is more important at this point.
Well, I've been watching boxing for over 50 years starting as a kid and when a guy takes his robe off how he looks is a pretty accurate guide as to how he prepared for this fight, especially heavyweights, Not always 100% but more often than not. In his last fight Fury looked awful and only a fundamentally flawed fighter as Wilder allowed him to win. If you dropped Fury into the 70's for 15 round fights he'd have been a contender, not much else as a fast pace would ruin him.
