I'm rewatching Gatti/Ward 1 and noticed Gatti toke way too much punishment in the 9th round and Im surprised the ref let it go on. What do y'all think?

no,cappacino knew what arturo was all about prior to the fight, and the way gatti came back and won round 10 proved it.

Any other ref I believe would have stopped it.

I am glad it wasnt a TKO but it very well should have been Gatti was not defending himself much in that round but what kept this fight going was the ref and what Gatti was known for....

Smoger likely would have let it continue.

Absolutely. I was sure the fight was over. Even Ward thought it was.

Well, I think there was only about one moment where Gatti looked like he was out on his feet, and after he let that pass it was clear he could hang on.

"You can stop Frank it. Arturo Gatti is out on his feet! Frank Capuciano's gonna let them go on."
