I'm not sure. Smoger lets fights go but not like that. Gatti was being hit over and over without defending himself. I mean, Gatti couldn't even stop Ward from pushing Gatti's head up with one glove, then swinging and landing with the other hand. Smoger would of stopped it.
"You know, you dream of fights like this, but seldom do they live up to the expectation. This is even more than you could dream of." My favorite quote from a boxer commentator
Tru that. I mean it was brave what Gatti was doing and he was known for that, but I was thinking the same thing.
Refs usually know if a fighter is known for comming back after punishment, Holyfield was often allowed to continue fighting where other fighters would have been stopped.
The fact that he survived shows that he shouldn't have IMO. But I canm see why it could have. Tremendous action that round.
Exactly my thoughts ,also if the fight is from the very beginning toe 2 toe action with both guys getting hurt during it , refs usually allow them to take more punishment than they would normally allow in any other "normal" fight.
It was a brutal fight and Gatti had plenty of them, it was a good decision to let the fight go on but I bet guys like Nady or Cortez would have stopped it. Frank was very old school and very experienced I think it was good judgement on his part.
