Greed and money are an evil existence, call it business if you want but Daniel said in a Nick Walshaw article that the Australian public are sick of the every day dribble from other so called aussie champions (money making, media garbbing, greedy souls of the sport) let's see if Geale and the Grange can make money using skill, brains, pride & good boxing sense.

And naturally to the fighters not only in it for the money, it's also not all that matters.

Both Mandy and Green cop a shlacking from many people here for fighting well past it boxers.

Now it's ok for Geale to do it straight after he wins a real belt from a real fighter.

Lastly, if Mandy had beaten Geale convicingly, I may have a different view, however the circumstances it happened, I really couldn't give a hoot now.

As Brua said, Kostya did it without an 'angle', for want of a better word.

That's not in dispute, how he goes about making it is.

To think fighting Mandy is the only way, or even the best way is also madness.

The antics that when that night were atrocious, enough for Grange to lodge a protest. And then enough for the IBO to order a mandatory rematch.
The next 3 judges also happened to score it to Geale.

 

Mate if you think Geale is going to undersell himself and more importantly, that Grange will let him do it, you're off with the fairies. Boxing is the hurt business.

It's all about maximising your income while you're at the top of your game, at this end of the spectrum. Who knows how long Daniel will remain world champion. But I can assure you, that while he can do it, it has to make financial sense.

Go through the IBF rankings. Anthony Mundine brings the most money to the table. End of. It's a fight that creates a heap of interest in Australia. A "true fighter" as you mentioned, would probably be interested in avenging the only loss on his ledger. It's almost a tradition in boxing for a newly crowned champion to have what is viewed as a "soft touch" in his first defence of the title. You mentioned Kostya Tszyu did it without an angle. That's not accurate. His angle was being an amatuer world champion that was signed by Bill Mordey and was in newspapers up and down the country. He was trained with Fenech by Johnny Lewis. I wouldn't argue that more sports fans in Australia knew about Tszyu in his debut fight than Geale up until a few fights ago.

On a smaller scale he's also got Sam Soliman. Nowhere near as much interest or coin, but still a fight between two Australian's for a world title.

Then there's Cory Spinks. Promoted and managed by DKP. If he fought him in St Louis, he'd do alright out of it. Similarly if he brings him to Australia.

No doubt, he'll face Sylvester again, which providing the German TV networks are interested, will bring some decent coin.

The sting has been taken from avenging that loss the day Wood dropped Mandy. There simply isn't enough achievment in beating Mandy now.

A rematch within 12 months from the first fight was a great idea.

That, plus members of Team Mundine harrassing one of the judges, plus the IBO independantly reviewing the fight and mandating a rematch resulting in Mundine vacating the belt and running down to 154 only to come back up to 160 to fight Deadly Medley in his next fight.

Geale would do well to steer well clear of Circus Mundine, as any involvement with them would only tarnish his reputation.
