Should Gilchrist think about retiring...?

haddin deserves more then a go, he really deserves a long stay in the job because he is brilliant both bat, and with keeping gloves has improved out of sight last few years, and is number one man in australia for it, i think its what australia needs aswell, a middle order man that is now consistent and can destroy spinners all over the park, remember he did very well in india.....

 

Berry was miles better than Gilchrist as a keeper but his batting was woeful. The selectors did make the right decision however as Gilchrists Blade has helped us to numerous wins. In fact the Aus selectors seemed to have set a precedent as most nations now pick a keeper that can do ok with the bat, Boucher - SA, SL have had a few, England tried it but came up with the novel approach of having a keeper who couldn't keep.

But yeah, Gillys gloves are miles behind Healy & Marsh. Does some great things but has missed a lot of basic stuff in his time. He did work hard at it but still just missing those final touches.

 

Haddin's had a few chances for Australia in limited overs games (where he is at his best) but hasn't really performed.

I haven't kept up to date with state cricket for a while. hows he going now? whats his average in the 4 day game?

The few games I've seen him play for Aus I remember him doing ok to well. In a recent series he was picked as a batsman alone. His SR is extremely healthy and he's done very well domestically the last few seasons.

I get the feeling Gilly will go soon, otherwise he'll be facing the same situation that saw him get his test debut.

We're extremely lucky to have such a ready made replacement.

I went to school with Adam when we were kids. He came from a good family, his father had coached the NSW cricket team and his two brothers and sister were good cricketers. Adam always had a good eye but wasnt an exceptional cricketer but he was very talented.

All players go through form slumps, he has been exceptionally consistent throughout his career so even though he is coming to the end its not to say he cant turn it around and end it on the high

 

the two most worthy over the last 2/3 seasons have been ignored, tim ambrose and james foster. both with extremely healthy batting averages and impressive gloveman. ambrose has finally been selected for the tour of new zealand next month.

gilchrist is still at this moment in time the best australia have to offer so no they shouldn't drop him although his position as best bat/wicketkeeper in the world is only currently intact because kumar sangakarra is currently not keeping wicket.

 

Batsmen who rely on hand-eye co-ordination (like Gilly) dont usually have long careers; they lose a little of their sharpness and they're pretty much done. Look how Tendulkar is still doing pretty well now, but he's a totally different player from his prime - he had the fundamentals in place to change his style. AG has done well to last this long imo, what is he, 37?


But no, I don't think he should be dropped. Even if he isn't what he was he can still be one of the most enteraining and destructive batters around.

I couldn't agree more and I have been calling for his head for about 12 months. He has done nothing lately with the bat, but most importantly is costing us wickets behind the stumps.

Australia do not need another batsman but a full time keeper. We bat down to 11 anyways as long as we don't let tait back in to the side.

Haddin is a brilliant keeper, and once again we are lucky to have a keeper who is good with the bat. If we wanted a batsman rather then a keeper bring in a top order batsman and throw the gloves to anyone and we would archieve that result.

 

yeh youve got 2 wonder if he can turn it round...it would b good 2 c him end it on his own terms...
