With Tyson and Roy Jones looking like a possibility, and Holyfield ready to go vs anyone ( Bowe? ), should heavyweight boxing have a senior's division? My initial though was no, however if its done correctly and regulated correctly, I could tolerate it with the following rules: Age limit. Must be over 42 years old. Full medical exam. Limit the length of the rounds to 2:00 minutes and give a full 2:00 minute break between the action. No fight beyond 6 rounds. Open scoring. 12 oz gloves.
Belator have a mma legands division and have similar rules(thay dont have drug testing though). So it could work but I personally think I would just turn into a novelty division
No, its a nonsensical idea that would only distract attention away from todays fighters Novelty would wear off pretty quick too
Its true what they say Towards the end fighters take more risks And they would certainly be at the end of thier careers lol
Opinion splits about 50-50... https://www.boxingforum24.com/threads/lets-bring-back-the-larry-holmes-seniors-belt.646903/
It will be seniors fights anyway between those guys. If one is foolish enough to take on a current champ that's their own fault.
No. No one good/interesting enough to warrant it's existence. Larry Holmes was at least decent throughout the 90s.
I'd settle for 42 years or more or 5 years retired and over 40. Boxing fans aren't always honest in terms of what they would be interested in. A senior's division would give the fans a chance to see many matches that did not happen. If Lewis fought Bowe for 6 rounds, who wouldn't have some interest?
No. These guys are not circus animals and they need to be protected from their own bravory/egos. If they want to put on an exhibition to please fans that is one thing. A professional division of shot old fighters is a deplorable idea
No, i for one do not want to see aged poor replicas of their former selves in such bouts. Heavyweight seniors division "Float like a buffalo sting like pea" apologies to Ali for *******izing his phrase.
