I'm not old enough to remember but we're people as down on George Foreman going for the title his second time around as they are on Holyfield? I mean to me, Holyfield appears to be in infinitely better physical shape and condition than George was.. he's for sure going to have better movement, head movement, speed, and he's always had a good punch... I don't see where all the doubt and concern comes from...
He beat valuev more convincingly than haye ever did? So yes, he can still box, it's up to him. It's His life as long as he passes medical he should decide when to hang them up. Not u me, media or anyone else.
People said it was up to Greg Page to decide when to retire too. I think Holyfield should retire. I sincerely don't think it's worth it anymore for him. But I don't expect him to.
If he feels so than yeah. If thats the only thing he enjoyes in his life then why not ? If i was him i would retire, too old for boxing and for most of the sports. Its pretty much impossible to achieve what Holyfield wants to achieve at his age (unify the division)
Big George did not have slurred speach when he came back...Holys obviously been damaged by the sport, no matter how he turns up physically
There are huge differences between Foreman and Holyfield: 1. Foreman in his first career was a KO artist who ended most of his fights early. Holyfield rarely KO'd an elite opponent and was in ring wars against Quawi, Bowe, Moorer, Tyson, Mercer and others. The punishment Holyfield took is just so much more than what Foreman had to take. 2. Foreman had a ten year hiatus, which also means ten years of not taking punches, Holyfield fought without much of a break since he started boxing. 3. Foreman could be outboxed in his comeback, but he had the punch to make an upset happen, as he did against Moorer. Holyfield never had the punch to base a strategy on looking for the KO chance. Holyfieldhas to grind an opponent down, at his age he won'tbe able to do that to an elite fighter. 4. Foreman was confident, but probably realistic too. He knew Moorer had strategic weaknesses and he knew very well to stay away from Lennox Lewis. Holyfield has serious delusions about being unified champ again.
My opinion is that first Foreman had a big time punchers chance and was winning and was very busy Holyfield has been largely inactive lost to Valuev and Ibragimov. He has fought nothing since his Botha fight was bad I support Holyfield to keep fighting if he continues to take what i call old guy fights. Fight Williams and Nielsen and maybe Morrison or Mercer. Fight guys who are unranked and not good or guys who are faded holy needs money and this is his best chance i support him when he takes safe fights like this Plus Foreman had Moorer Holyfield has to beat Wladimir Klitschko I think that is much tougher a task
Holyfield should have retired as soon as Ruiz put him on the mat. That was 2000 and he's done nothing in eleven years, other than beat a 7ft 2 ogre who can barely box. He has boxing damage which could get worse and I want him leave. He's just the ultimate warrior and can't let the fight game go.
I look at it. Its his life. None of us actually know him. If he wants to fight let him fight. Some of u guys sound like u have dinner with him and are tight with him. He is a ****ing legend. HE CAN DO WHAT HE WANTS TO DO!
Holyfield cannot retire anytime soon as he has Nine children to look after. Just what must his Child Support bills be every month? This could go on & on, which is a great shame, because he is the Ultimate Warrior, who has given us fans many a memorable fight.
First 3 points perfectly correct, but then you go and diss Big George saying he knew well enough to avoid Lewis. The same Lewis who could NEVER KO him, but was KOd early by weaker punchers McCall and Rahman. Seriously, George probably would've lost a decision to Lewis similarly as he did Holy, and he probably would've been beaten by a wider margin, but cmon, avoiding him. As for the OP. Holy has zero chance of beating a K bro, but Haye is a different story. I honestly think Holy could grind out a win vs Haye, that is IF he could somehow keep Haye from potshotting him all night ala Byrd v Holy or Haye v Valuev.
1. Interviewed by On the Ropes last month, he sounded pretty punchy. 2. Greg Page's last fight happened about 2 miles from the office building I'm sitting in right now. Sad story. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Greg_Page_(boxer)
