i'm 5'10" 165-170 pounds and my body fat percentage is at about 11% and Id like to get it down to about 8% , should I go all protein and if so, how many calories is the limit i can have?
It really comes down to the quality of the food you're eating. You should have 1g of protein per lbs of body weight, but you need a clean mix of carbs and fats too. Someone else here can go more in depth.
While its nearly impossible to have a 100 percent protein diet unless you eat egg whites from sunrise to sunset, I don't think it would be very good for your energy levels as well as your heart health. Just eat less carbs, and more complex carbs. As a rule for yourself try not to have larger portions of carbs than protein portions in any given meal except perhaps breakfast or post workout. Low-moderate, complex carb and moderate-low fat with high protein should help you lose weight. but try to balance you meal leaning toward protein slightly; almost nothing good comes from extremities.
If you don't eat enough carbs your body will simply convert proteins instead. Eat a healthy, rich, balanced diet consisting of proteins, carbs and fats, and get your ass moving. Run, box, cycle, sprint, whatever burns calories.
And whats the benefits of getting to 8%? Care to explain? And no you certainly should NOT be on a protein only diet unless you want to clog your toilet and have piles. There are zero benefits to a protein only diet. You body needs all nutrients in equal measure.
Carbs are fine. Bad carbs are only really that bad when your life style is sedentry. The body requires Carbs for energy aswell as building muscle. No carbs means an eventual catabolic state. Naturally slow releasing Carbs are favored but again this depends entirely on your regime and lifestyle. High metabolisms require more carbs to maintain musculature weight and energy levels.
Bingo. Dumb myths are everywhere though. "Don't eat fruits, they'll give you an insulin boost!" And how is that bad if you're not an overweight person risking diabetes? Insulin does the job it's supposed to do, telling muscles that fuel is on its way. If you never use that fuel it becomes obsolete.
Most guys have no idea as to what your BF is an indication of. Low BF`s are only favored by BB`s for obvious reasons (or not so obvious as the case may be). In any other sport its futile. Optimum weight is what is neccesary and varies dramatically from one to the next. Fedor is NOT body beautiful and has a small paunch. But his one of the best conditioned athletes in MMA and a lock as the best MMA ATG of all time. The only thing a low bf will promote in boxing is brain damage. So i fail to see entirely what people try to attach to it as a measurement of some form of fitness..
I see what you're saying however I disagree in as much as a low bf % means you're carrying less "dead weight", but yeah you need a certain amount of fat on you or you could wind up like bruce lee :nut
Keep things simple. First cut your calories by 300, not 500. Now attempt to include 2-3 vegetables, 2-3 fruits, 170 grams of protein, and a multivitamin into your diet each and every day. The rest of your diet should be made up of healthy fats and complex carbohydrates. If you like drinking sugary drinks, save them for post-workout only. Don't MAKE a diet and stick to it every day. Try to switch up the types of foods you eat often; just for sanity reasons and to keep your body from expecting the same nutrients every day. If you're actually sparring or going into a boxing match, refrain from eating something different on the days leading up to a fight though. The cardio is not difficult. There are a million different ways to do it, a boxing workout is the best imo. It's a lot better than running on a treadmill at a gym with the guy next to you doing a pyramid of useless bicep curls.
