Excellent point. From the moment he hit the canvas to when Nady helped him up (knees and hands off the deck) about 7 secs had elapsed.

Even then, Zab was lurching backward as he tried to stand up and, without assist, good chance he might’ve spilled over again.

Now Zab might’ve been a prima donna anyway but some might attribute his post stoppage behaviours to him still experiencing trauma from the original right hand punch and knock down - thereby vindicating Nady’s decision to stop the fight.

    Perfect stoppage imo.

His leg was all over the shire, stumbling about. I havent watched the replay for years(in work at the moment), however I think I remember him gesticulating as his legs were dancing, as if to distract attention away from them.

Can you imagine if he let it continue after everyone saw that and Judah got seriously hurt? Nady would have been absolutely destroyed as a Ref.

Jay Nady was exactly right in stopping the contest Judah could not stand un aided he was helpless doing the chicken dance. He should thank Nady for looking after his welfare so he could live to fight again

I’ve seen it here and there.

The ref let Joppy go on against Tito in the 4th round after being dropped twice on 1 KD. Of course it just prolonged Joppy’s beating as he got stopped in the next round lol, but I give Joppy a lot of credit for lasting throughout that fourth round.

Bradley had better success, as he got dropped in twice on one KD in the 1st round against Provodnikov and went on to win a decision.

Holmes also came back to win from a knockdown like that against Snipes. He didn’t actually touch canvas twice, but that’s because he stumbled into the ring post.

I think Tszyu was just better and would have won anyway even if it goes on, but I would have preferred Nady to keep counting until the mandatory 8 count, and then make a decision.

The proof that Nady made the right decision is Zab Judah himself. He went on & became Undisputed Welterweight champ not that long afterwards. In other words, he didn't suffer any ill-effects from that fight & was able to go on to a long & successful career thereafter.

I think Zab might have been able to get through a few more rounds had he been allowed to continue. My pre-fight prediction for that one was King Kostya by kayo in 5 (he went in as a two-and-a-half to one underdog) which I reckon would have been bang on had Nady let it continue.

The second stumble can be indicative of severe brain trauma. While it may be true that Zab “just got up too early” the ring is no place for guess work, lives are literally on the line.

Judah was hit solid, fell hard, smacked the back of his head, got up chicken danced and fell a second time on his face.
Any decent Ref would stop the fight at that point. Also, when Judah got up the second time he could not stand ready and that is a TKO.

Exactly. That's the reason Zab attacked Nady. He did not realize he fell to the canvas a 2nd time. At the time, he thought he beat the count and Nady just waved the fight off. Then he went hog wild.

His legs had totally gone, one more right hand and his torso and head would of slumped.

Yes. That was an early stoppage. I've seen fighters survive KDs like that all the time.

The fact that he fell again doesn't mean he was done. He just got up too quickly and was wobbly legged. Doesn't mean he couldn't recover. Sometimes the legs take a bit longer to recover but the fighter is lucid.

It is up to the fighter to do the right things to survive, not up to the referee to assume he won't.

Mosley looked absolutely ****ed vs Forrest. He survived. He had no legs at all and was hanging on to Forrest. I remember also Berto having no legs after Ortiz KD'd him and was still dangerous the rest of the fight. Examples like these prove you can survive even without your legs recovering.

Also, the poll results may be a little off because your poll title is the exact opposite of the topic title. I voted incorrectly at first.

Judah was done and Nady officiated accordingly.

Many say that the KO is the ultimate method of victory but that's not actually true. Don't get me wrong, winning via KO should always be the objective but it's not the most impressive or rewarding method of victory.

Winning via no mas or JTFO KO is the ultimate method of victory and the most satisfying but, for me, nothing tops making your opponent do a chicken dance and making them do an ATG chicken dance in enemy territory in their own backyard in front of a packed arena of their hostile home fans is as good as it gets.

Even Zab respects Kostya for doing that to him and I know for a fact he personally reached out to thank Jay Nady for sparing him from being on the wrong end of a brutal KO which he undoubtedly would of had Nady not waved it off because not only was Kostya a massive puncher with laser accuracy and a deadly finisher, but that right had discombobulatized him to such an extent it blew his slickness fuse and he would've been a sitting duck for follow up attack and they would've been full power lefts and rights not mid power perfectly timed and placed ones like the ones which dropped him.
