Should Jermain Taylor be pulled out of the tournament for his own good?

excuse me ...but it's a tournament which means you might loose some and might win some. JT should be rather satisfiesd with his fight tonight it was close but his downfall was his stamina not his chin. He can rise once he's figured out to get a better stamina

There's no doubt that he's not going to achieve anything. His head isn't in the game, he doesn't seem to want to be in there fighting, and, despite executing something of a more intelligent game-plan than usual, looked decidedly withered tonight.

Pulling out is a good idea insofar as it doesn't usurp the tournament structure.

This is not tennis where you lose some and win some and it doesn't matter. If Taylor gets stopped by Ward in his next fight, he will have been stopped three times in a row, once out-cold. And you would still want him to get KOed by Kessler in his next fight? Why do I get the feeling you've never ever been in a boxing ring?

If he pulls out of this then it has to be to retire.

I'm surprised people are so stunned and worried that someone got knocked out in a boxing match, after being knocked out previously. Yeah, it might have been a nasty KO but there are still fighters out there that none of you are interested in who are getting knocked out dozens of times a year.

If his doctor suggests that he shouldn't fight, then he should take that on board. If his heart has gone or he is worried about his future then he should quit but if any fighter pulls out of this tournament for the reasons you suggest then he is pulling out of boxing, full stop!

It's a violent sport. People are going to get knocked out. He just has to find his competing level, maybe he just isn't good enough for this stage (not because he is lacking anything technical but he just can't take the punishment. Unfortunately a completely natural problem that he cannot train or work on)

All of a sudden I'm wondering if this tournament can really work as originally described if fighters start dropping out after getting KO'ed. New fighters could be drafted in and it will start to get really unfair to certain fighters. You can't have Abraham facing Taylor and then Dirrell (for example) having to face Bute (Taylors replacement). It only really works if everyone faces each other. Then again if someone gets repeatedly KO'ed they will get worse every fight. I'm not sure how it will work.

    It was a one-punch KO.

It seems to be the norm that the long drawn out beatings are the ones that cause the permanent damage, and Taylor hasn't experienced many of them.

However, it is alarming that he seems to crumple in such a quick fashion in a fight, against Pavlik, Froch and now AA; its definitely a bit of a worry. There seems to be a natural weakness there.

He is making great money to fight Kessler in Denmark in stage 3. And a decent payday against Andre Ward. I dont see him turning down money.

You think he will agree with you? In his eyes his whole career will be complete and utter failure if he retires now.

He is a good boxer and can still make good money, he just needs to realise his pro's and con's and weigh them up against the right opposition. That's if he really hasn't got what it takes for this 6. Some brutal KO's have happened to the best but they wouldn't mean much if they came back to win another day.

Anyway, my only point is JT, his Dr, his management and his family will know what's best for him and I doubt he is stupid enough to carry on if he really is in danger of getting severely hurt in the near future.

There is a reason they don't have tournaments in boxing, at least not if the point was to determine who the best fighter was. But then, this tournament isn't about determining who the best is as much as it is about making a lot of money for the promoters and boxers involved. No surprise there.

I don't think he will pull out, Taylor fights all the way and never quits unless his team force him out.
