Should Jermain Taylor be pulled out of the tournament for his own good?

I feel bad for JT....I really liked him as a boxer and hes also a great guy. I really thought he would win against Abraham, but he never took his chance. He really looked scared in the ring...and looked shell-schocked. His boxing career is over...he is obviously a shot fighter, and i don´t want to see him get hurt futher and thats inevetable if he continues in the tourney.

We need a new king coz the old one sux...can´t wait to see someone kicking Abe´s ass.........grrrr :vonnecunt

ohh but i've been there ...but if JT should been pulled out because he lost by a brutal/lucky KO .....well answer me this SHOULD he then been invited to the SUPER SIX in the first place? it's boxing everyone knows anything can happen in the ring. (even brutal KO's)

Taylor has some kind of a mental or style problem with white boxers?

Either way I actually think Taylor has a good chance against Ward. Kessler will be very difficult.

That's what makes it sad if you think about it. He beat no other than Hopkins twice and showed so much determination and activity in those two fights you can't help but wonder what the hell happened.

Hopkins, who was popular for being a late starter at that stage, was FORCED by Taylor to not throw much early because of Taylor's activity and save it all for late rounds. He applied that strategy and stun Taylor late yet Taylor kept throwing back and in fast combinations all the way to the 12th. That's the kind of desire he showed there even when hurt by no other than Hopkins. It just looks to me like he got way too much too early when no one expected him to and signing with Stewards made it worse as obvious now.

Of course he shouldn't have been invited in the first place. But then, one of the main reasons the tournament is taking place is for Taylor to get a few more big money fights. He is too proud to quit now. He'll suffer later, in a decade or two.

Retire?? No way. They knew this was a risk and strong possibility that he could be KTFO. He is contracted to fight 3 fights he shud fulfil this.

If you seriously think his issue is white human skin then I kindly ask you to stand up and jump out of the window immediately.

His issue is clearly aggressive fighters NOT their skin color. Taylor can't handle pressure and CAN'T keep active and that's what pressure fighters do, they force you to work in there and never give you not even a second break. That's his issue, not skin color. If you can't see that and think it's skin color that he can't handle then out the window or UFC please.

To be honest, I've never really felt like JT had that meanness associated with great champions. I actually thought he was cruising a little against Hopkins when he should have been more active down the stretch, and the raw grit Pavlik and Froch showed against him he never looked like replicating.

I don't think he deserved the decision in either fight against Hopkins, but that he even made it so close with B-Hop proved that Taylor really did have great talent. It is a crying shame his career has ended up as it has. I hope people remember him as the slick star he once was and not the fading and chinny fighter he has become. On his best night, he was a damn good boxer.

What happened is that he spent his next bunch of fights learning nothing from Manny Steward, getting another gift against Winky, and making pointless defenses, all the while never learning his craft.

AA starched him in the end because of mistakes he never corrected. His hands stayed low after the threw his jab. His head movement never improved. He never lost that silly tic where he touches his gloves to his face.

JT was a great athlete who never studied and learned the craft of boxing.

Well, Scar... humans can have a mental block against something if they had a bad or even traumatic experience. For Taylor the KO against Pavlik may have caused him such an experience.

I don't think that is too far fetched. The colour of the skin in itself of course doesn't make any difference either way, but as a mental signal it may play a role with Taylor's mind?

If you know a little psychology I am sure you can see that this is a real possibility. I am sure other fighters have had similar mental blocks towards black fighters, mexican fighters etc. previously. It happens whether we like it or not.

Why are you so surprised at that thought? You clearly have issues with white human skin, so why shouldn't JT.

Seriously though Joe Average makes a very interesting post... not one that I necessarily agree (or disagree with) but interesting none the less.
