well speaking to my mate his research states he weighed 95lbs fully clothed. I do find this hard to believe as Wilde was 5'2 and that was tall for a flyweight then. However Jimmy Wilde was only once the heavier man in the ring when he fought someone who was about 10lbs lighter.

Jimmy Wilde was at his best fighting weight at 6 stone 10lbs. Historian Gilbert Odd wrote in Boxing News, April 4, 1969:
"He came in at a time when flyweights were plentiful and competition extremely high''.
Jimmy Wilde never made 8st in his fighting life!

If my maths is right 6 stone 10 lbs is 94 lbs.
8 stone which is the 'Flyweight limit' is 112 lbs.

Wilde's boxing weight of 94 lbs is way below the current lightest boxing division of strawweight/minimiumweight/mini flyweight which is 105 lbs.

That is why in todays terms Wilde would have been a multiple weight champion, that is why Jimmy Wilde is either a top 10 P4P ATG or at the very least a top 20 P4P ATG.

as good as wilde was,i don't think he'd have beaten benny lynch.
he was one hard f**ker.he had a brilliant short left hook, was very quick, obviously, could take a big punch and never cut.

that abouts agree with my freinds research of Wilde being about 94-96lbs best weight.

do you know if it is 94lbs fully clothed or is that in shorts

Looking forward to it, I'd appreciate if you'd let me know once it's finished so I can pick up a copy. :thumbsup

Even if your friend's not the one to do it, if it ever were possible to get the records of some of Wilde's earlier opposition, I think it'd be much easier to figure out where his proper placement should be. As it stands, some people still believe that most of his opponents had no fights and even those who know better about that aspect can't know anything of what kind of caliber much of it was. I hear about Wilde coming up through a period of strong domestic level competition as a whole, but that's about it.

Wilde has a strong claim to that title, imo. He's arguably #1. But then again, so is Robinson, Armstrong, Pep and Langford.

During his first American tour due to the stringent rules Jimmy was forced to weigh in with pebbles sown into the inside of his suit , Wisconsin was the State athletic commision if im not mistaken .
