Anbody think they'll go for something different like we did? Or the archer in Barcelona? And does Pele not being an Olympian in the strictest sense rule him out either?
And a doctor too, like Tostao. I think Gaddafi hosted him in the Libyan desert or something back in the day. And he named his son after Castro.:smoke:happy Big socialist, like. Super intelligent bloke too; some of his interviews make for great reading, the way he tied football into society and philosophy etc. Lounged on the bench that day wrapped up to the nines with a *** sticking out the corner of his gob, cool as you like.
As you mentioned, there were 'non Olympians' who helped light the flame in 1992 and 2012. Pele to most people outside Brazil would I suspect be top of any poll to the question 'Name a famous person from Brazil?', so for the moment the outside world has got to think Pele is going to the honours.
It's mad how he turned pro' late and how football was essentially down time for him yet he was an outstanding playmaker, goal scorer, leader, everything. Yeah, medicine was his main thing. Like Che but without the killings
Sócrates was a great player and a very nice guy...... He was theirs though (Corinthians....our archi-enemy for life )
I had a Sócrates avatar once but he was wearing the Brazil shirt in the picture...not a corinthians one, never, I wouldn´t be that crazy !! I lost a bet once and had to wear a corinthians shirt in college though, I don´t like to remember tbh haha....
:scaredas: ****. Bet that was a rough day. Same as if I was made to wear a Pompy shirt...I'd rather be dead!
