It's fairly obvious that all the talent is in the Jr. MW division and the 160 MW division is a junkyard wasteland. The two divisions should be combined and a new weight limit from 154 to 160 redefined.
Yes it should. a lot of talent in both divisions and they are all clamoring to fight the only star of both Saul Canelo Alvarez , who is only content with clearing out 147 at 155.
Golovkin's peoples (K2) just announced that they would love to fight Khan and it would be a hell of a fight. If the 160 division has any talent, then why has it's unified champion been chasing Jr. MWs (Cotto, Canelo, Khan) for the last 2 years, and ducking a Jr. MW Cuban (Lara)?
Honestly, because the talent pool is more interesting at 147 and always has been. Can't name a decade in history where cats at 160 were stars without welterweights moving up into the division. 135 and 140 suffer from the same problem also.
Yes because clearly Trout, Mayweather, Lara, Angulo, Kirkland, and Cotto, had never competed at JMW or in most cases won titles at JMW smh.
Cruiser combined with HW, and new Super HW division from 230 up? Super MW combined with Light HW from 168 to 175? Junior MW combined with MW from 154 to 160?
SMW is a terrible division at the moment. Good thing the fighters are now fighting each other, but before, the top 10 weren't fighting each other or even mentioning each other. Both division are getting better, though.
Far too many instances I hear Welters, MWs, SMW and LHWs say they were killing themselves to make the weight, so combining normal and Super divisions should make boxing much more entertaining and competitive. Plus, Chavez Jr. would probably personally thank you.
