Should Kessler go for broke or wait until the end to break Calzaghe down first?

Good point, Joe doesn't have to look for anyone if Kessler is already taking the fight to him. He's not coming forward anyway, this is gonna be a very careful chess game and Mikkel is gonna cry afterwards for what he didn't do, which is a pity cause he's a very good fighter as well... Actually, the fight against Bernard would be more difficult for Joe cause he would have to take the fight to the american much more.

Kessler needs to shoot those straight rights at Calzaghe all night, and impose his strength advantage...i think Kessler loses a brawl with Calzaghe, who brawls with speed rather than power...Mitchell had much more power than Calzaghe and he still lost the brawl to prove my point...Kessler needs to BOX, using the right hand more than his jab against Calzaghe...

Alright, I have seen very carefully the Andrade fight once again, and I believe that this sullen young man of twenties or thereabouts can subtly alter the tempo, through speed-ups, slowdowns, changeovers and may be successful as he embarkes upon the arduos programme of beating Joe to the punch... Kessler's imagery is not too fluid, his metre is not too inconstant and he's not predictable as clockwork, he can control well the distance and overcome the inertia of his enormous body, stand his ground and pick his shots... Moreover, he has the necessary refinement to set a trap and catch Calzaghe out as the latter may grow halfway into sleep and the former halfway into wakefulness and the fast paced chess match unfolds. It's possible that if Mikkel takes the right steps and each subsequent stride becomes progressively easier, his full potential comes to be something Joe cannot deal with, something utterly beyond Calzaghe's experience in fact... Then, you cannot ignore the fact that Joe has shown that he cannot blow out a candle, let alone a burning house... Manfredo said those were pitty-pat punches and in case they were ( I am not saying they were but I say they were slaps with the inside of the glove), hardly will Mikkel's head begin to spin and his senses to reel and he may smash through, blazing with righteous rage, tightening his grip and crack Calzaghe's shell with the concussive blasts the Dan is known to produce. Aggressive enough or back under control, to be or not to be - that is the question for the Prince of the Denmark...

If everything goes well for Kessler, he can win on points. He shouldn't try to force a win by taking chances for a TKO - unless its the only way to win. Not taking unnecessary chances has always been a part of his game, and it works, and its smart...

Continue this and JC will be frustrated and make more mistakes... If the TKO presents itself, then okay, but not by risking - that would be folly.

Will Calzaghe be able to land his fast and furious flurries on a moving target like Kessler?

Kessler uses distance well, and when his opponent is punching he covers AND more importantly moves. This means his opponents have to come foward and hence cannot plant their feet and load up hard shots.

From what ive seen of calzaghe, he flurries on an opponent and when the opponent is stationary that when he puts in some harder shots.

I don;t see him doing this to kess.

Very accurate... Pretty much everyone he has fought has either remained stationary or tried to outhustle Calzaghe inclose - all to no avail.

However, just like we say concerning Kessler inclose abilities are a questionmark, since we haven't seen it much - doesn't mean it doesn't exist or they aren't great. Same might go for JC; that he has no problems catching moving targets...

When has Calzaghe ever been given a gift decision by the judges? Erm, never. So what BS is this about Kessler can't win on points?

This has nothing to do with Calzaghe, it has to do with boxing in general. It is hard to win on points on your opponents turf.

Good post Dorfmeister! What I particularly like is the phrasing "....set a trap and catch Calzaghe out.....". Clearly it's impossible to force a KO but setting traps will leave MK with more than one opportunity to
stun JC enough to pave the way for MK's own style of boxing. I think the one that can impose his style on the other stands the better chance of winning. The issue that leaves the biggest question marks in most analysis is IMO the one concerning speed. How much faster is JC actually? Can MK make up for a substantial difference and how? Can clever (but slower) foot-work and superior punching power make up for it? You, Dorfmeister, provide some answers, however, IMO in a very ideal setup. I mean things fit nicely together in your analysis and I really hope it plays out that way.:good

Thnx, HolgerD and DanePugilist, you know one thing that amazes me the most? Well, in case you're interested, it's that you have two guys in their mid-thirties with exceptional handspeed and above average boxing I.Q. in Calzaghe and Mosley and two dangerous, younger punchers in Cotto and Kessler but for many around here, there's no chance for Kessler and for Mosley at the same time... I mean, what's the magical trick, the prestige in this mystical experience to pick Joe and disfavor Shane, where do you draw the line? But then there are reasons that the heart sees and the mind cannot understand. Tell you what, if it is to set or not to set the ideal ambush point the question for the Prince of the Denmark, then it may be needed a horse, a Welsh Kingdom for a horse... For then may be the winter of their discontent made glorious summer by this son of Thor. The second coming of the Viking Invasion in the British Islands and I am still not taking sides. Good luck Joe and Mikkel, the game is on.

:D. I think the difference to people is that nobody has found Calzaghe's number yet, while Mosley has been beat on several occations.

Any combinations of winners is valid and possible. As it is, I go with both youngsters. To me though, what speaks in favor of Mosley compared to Joe is that he has been in this situation more than once(elite fights).

Mosley is one of the worst 'elite' fighters of the last decade. I mean what is is record in big fights? Nothing special. He is better than the 'elite' James Toney but that is it.

True elite fighters don't get shut out by Wright. Can you imagine any fighter in history do that to Calzaghe not matter how good they were? We can safely assume Calzaghe is better, by a mile than Mosley.

Mosely struggled at boardline elite level in his very prime, on steroid. It ios laughable to think so many people are picking him over the classy Cotto. Though the competetiveness of fight with Judah etc...have been disappointing Cotto...he is still a remarkable talent as shown early in his career and has show he can get the job done.

If Vargas gave Mosley some trouble first time around, that Cotto will clearly beat him. Cotto will just walk the old man down landing heavy shots, whilst Mosley is forgetting he is no longer a young lightweight with good reactions. He'll try and land the combinations on Cotto coming in. But Cotto is fairly special, he won't land near often enough and Cotto will land heavy damaging shots, the process worsening as the damage and the fight go on.

I've never seen Kessler fight, but all the posts suggets that this is going to be an intriguing bout.

My fear for Calzaghe is that he has been knocked down recently a couple of times, and Kessler is possibly the best puncher he has faced. He mightn't escape if he gets caught in this fight and you would think that it's bound to happen once over the course of rounds.

On the other hand Kessler hasn't faced anyone who will present the problems Joe does so its a hard one to call.

If I had to put money on it I would go for a Kessler TKO, but that's based on what I've heard about Kessler - I heard a lot about Lacy too and look what happened to him............

See, DanePugilist, that's what I was talking about... We can assume by China_hand_Joe's statements that Tito is not an elite fighter either and that Joe Calzaghe has had much "better competition" than Shane has . But that's why I say there are reasons only the heart knows and that's legitimate, how could you expect the welsh and the ricans to take Kessler's and Mosley's sides?...You can all show how deep is your love in this world of fools breaking us down... But I'll be here and I will be collecting the bill in very, very short time. Gonna leave this thread now - Good luck, Joe, Mikkel, Miguel and Shane altogether.
